The Garden
The Garden is the centermost settlement of Eden in the Clarkwoods Literary Universe.
In the Beginning…
The Garden, being the most vast of the constituent regions of Eden, is full of nooks and crannies for survivors of each Calamity to end up in. As such, it is not uncommon for two individuals of mating age to end up in an otherwise unpopulated area. And it is not uncommon for them to come to the conclusion that they and they alone have been tasked with repopulating the Earth (or whatever planet they came from).
It is also not uncommon for one of those individuals to be more interested in seeking out knowledge of the world than to spend all day schtupping a person they’re not at all attracted to just because it’s “what’s expected.” The wandering individual will often find others not too far away. And thus, with a sigh of relief, the re-settlement of The Garden begins. This then leads to the re-settlement of Eden’s other biomes, and eventually to the rebirth of reality itself.
In the End…
Governance of each iteration of Eden varies. It all depends on who ends up there, what kind of experience they had in business or government in the time before The Calamity, and how in shock they still are about the end of the world as they knew it.
Eventually—sometimes sooner, sometimes later—one of the The Sister’s Regulars makes their way before governing body of The Garden and tells The Tale of the Seven Voices. Sometimes they are laughed out of place straight away, sometimes they are believed by a select few who are then ostracized themselves, and sometimes—sometimes—they are able to convince those who need convincing, and to get rebirth of reality on track right away.
At this point, all of the efforts of The Garden’s governors and its people goes into finding the seven voices, gathering them on the banks of The River Without End, and restarting things so they can all get back to the lives they were living.
Little do they know, that’s not the way it works. Yes, reality will restart. But it is a violent, chaotic process, and nothing will ever be exactly as it was. If they knew, they’d stay in the Garden and live the new lives they’d built for themselves instead.
