The World
The story is set in Eden, a strange supercontinent surrounded by The River Without End. During the time chronicled in The Blood of Seven Queens, Eden is the only place left in the whole of reality that hasn’t been destroyed by a universe-ending Calamity. And so, control of this purgatorial paradise and its resources is fiercely contested.
Twenty years ago, in the Edenian West, a ne’er-do-well by the name of Oscar Diggs led an invasion of the land called Oz. When whispers reach his ears that there is a movement in the Edenian South to create a country of threateningly similar size, Diggs hatches the scheme that sets our story in motion.
The Heroine
Frieda Jacobs is the prophesied descendant of seven queens—the one woman in Eden who can unite the seven disparate kingdoms of the South. A commoner who’s made a name for herself with her regular adventures through the fearsome Forest of Fangs, Frieda’s monthly treks over the river and through the woods are the stuff of local legend. But when whispers spread that she might be something more than she appears to be, that’s when things get really interesting.
Frieda’s family tree, created by her grandmother Charlotte Goose, promises to turn the idea of a United Kingdom of Wonderland into a reality—and that’s why Oscar Diggs is so desperate. He knows that if a nation rises up to challenge his Empire of Oz, then everything he’s lied and cheated to build may come crumbling down.
