High Walls

After the destruction of the Glass Tower in 918 YK, the city council of Sharn became increasingly concerned with further acts of sabotage and terrorism. The district of High Walls in Lower Tavick's Landing, formerly a residential district, was converted into a holding area for foreign travelers coming into the city. It was effectively a giant prison camp, and the bridges to other districts were all sealed by massive gates and guard posts to keep the detained within the district.   With the war over, the district no longer serves as a prison. Instead, it has been converted into a large refugee camp to house those that were displaced during the war. Most of it's population are Cyrans who for whatever reason didn't want to, or couldn't, make it to New Cyre.   The gates that originally sealed the district remain, but they haven't been closed since the war ended. The guard posts remain however, ostensibly for the security of the residents. High Walls has largely become a self sufficient community, even after it lost a chunk of it's population in 998 YK when they emigrated to New Cyre, led by Daine, Lei and Pierce. The remaining refugees put their skills to use for the community, and a kind of barter system has evolved within it, but only for those who are considered part of the community. The refugees sell their talents outside of the district for gold, but inside a favour and goodwill is far more valuable than some coins.   There is a lot of anger bubbling beneath the surface in High Walls, both at Breland and just simply the unjustness of their situation. This was only worsened by the actions of Teral ir'Soras, who once acted as a leader for the community but was revealed by the Mist Walkers to be kidnapping people and experimenting on them at the behest of the mindflayer Chyrassk. This could have led to the collapse of the community, and indeed many did leave for New Cyre, but largely the community has banded together and those that remain are closer than ever.
