Half-Elf

Half-elves are one of the most common races on Khorvaire. Descended from both elves and humans, they have become their own unique race, distinct from both of their ancestors. Half-elves on Khorvaire refer to themselves as Khoravar, which means "Children of Khorvaire" in Elvish, and they are found throughout the continent.   Over the centuries, the Khoravar grew in number and spread out across Khorvaire. Many of them maintained ties to their human kin, as their elven ancestors distanced themselves. Some khoravar split off and formed their own communities, the seeds of which would grow into the Greensingers of the Eldeen Reaches and the Gray Sails of the Lhazaar Principalities.   Khoravar have a strong tradition of generosity and hospitality towards each other. Compared to other races, they will go out of their way to help one another and share news and information. Within khoravar communities, they often have weekly gatherings to discuss local news and events, and share in each others company.   There are two dragonmarks that manifest on khoravar, the Mark of Detection and the Mark of Storm. The Mark of Storm originally manifested in Thrane, while the Mark of Detection manifested in Breland. Today, most khoravar are in some way associated with House Medani or House Lyrandar, though many are also intertwined the noble families of the Five Nations.   Khoravar are often called upon by their home nations to act as emissaries to Aerenel and Valenar. As of 999 YK, half-elves are not able to join the Undying Court or embody the ancestors of the Tairnadal, but the elves acknowledge that the half-elves have a greater claim to these honours than humans.   The genetics of the Khoravar are unusual. Many alchemists and sages are amazed that it is possible for humans and elves to conceive together at all. When a human and khoravar have children, the resulting child has an equal chance to be a human or a khoravar. In all other cases, whether an elf and a human, or a khoravar and an elf, the result is a khoravar child. The elves of Aerenel  claim that this is not a matter of physiology or genetics, but of magic. Elven blood carries the power of distant Thelanis, and ancient Xen'drik, and once diluted it can never be regained.
