Into Thelanis

General Summary

The creature approaching the party was a steel predator with its sights set on Taren Torralyn d'Sivis. Agglomeraton was surprised when the silvereye marauder from the Thaliost jail leaped out of the bushes as well. The Crusaders went to work, and found themselves more than a match for the constructs. Searching the metal shells that remained, they found coins, a lock of hair from Blackfingers confirming that he was the target for which the steel predator was created, and a spell scroll containing the Telepathic Bond spell, which may have been enabling the marauder's master to spy on the party through the creature. With this new information, they quickly set out again for the portal entrance.

With Alethra Kessler's guidance, they found a clearing near the fairy ring that would take them into Thelanis. Because the crossing would only be active at twilight and dawn, the party decided to camp for the night and enter the Feywild in the morning. While bedding down, Dofi and Blackfingers had a chat about life in Zilargo, and Alethra had some suggestions about successfully navigating Thelanis. After a time, the Crusaders settled down in their bedrolls, with Agglomeraton on guard in his depowered, sentry mode. Shortly after falling asleep, those sleeping members of the party were greeted in a joint dream by Anaxi Zephries, the Cartophile. Using a dreamstone (a device of his own creation), he is able to project himself into the dreams of up to 6 creatures. The party had suspicions about his motives after talking to Blackfingers, and he responded to those with an admission. His work with the Chamber gives him cause to recruit talented people to assist him with his mission, collecting artifacts and weaponsmiths from around Khorvaire to protect them from an unknown force that appears to be trying to gather them together and use them to reignite the Last War. This villainous party's identity and goals are unknown, but he may be trying to use elements of the Draconic Prophecy to his own ends, whatever they may be. The party has already proven capable by finding the famed inventor Kwalish and rescuing Blackfingers, a well-known and talented alchemist, from execution or kidnapping by the other faction in this conflict. Taking Blackfingers to the Mror Holds and clan Soronath, and locating and befriending the ultimate weapon-smith, Thorogrim Soronath, will be incredibly helpful to further the Cartophile's goals.

Upon waking, the party successfully bypassed a group of redcaps to reach the portal to Thelanis . The bright, vibrant countryside was full of fey creatures. During their travels, they encountered an Annis hag and her "son", a dire troll, who were not very hospitable. While Agglomeraton proselytized to them, Dofi snuck through the back door and initiated combat. The dire troll was banished to the material plane, and the hag was dealt with in gruesome fashion. Searching the house, there was no soul bag, but instead a sack with large, iron discs, inscribed in Infernal.

Then, they reached Thelanis' version of the White Bridge in the material plane. The fey version of the bridge was gleaming and intact, and the party hurried to cross. In the distance, in the clear waters of the sound, they spotted a water elemental riding a dragon turtle. Though headed for them, it was intercepted by a kraken, and both were distracted while the party escaped. After crossing the bridge, they entered a portion of the feywild that was dimmer, like twilight, and colder. They advance through the cold and saw an enormous gap in the scenery. It was a black void, nearly unimaginable, neither absorbing nor radiating any light: simply empty. Alethra led them through a cave in a small hillock back to the material plane. Slightly disoriented from the journey, but retaining all their memories, the party emerged in Karrnath, with the sight of Taer Syraen now filling the previous void in the landscape.
