Dura

Overview

Dura is the oldest ward, being where Sharn was first started. Many consider it to be the heart of the city, while others consider in a blight on the City of Towers. The place is full of cracked and crumbling stonework, abandoned lifts, and lanterns long burnt out but never restored. Dura is easily the most dangerous ward in the city, where even in the Upper Dura districts you never feel quite as safe as in some of the other wards of the city. But it also holds some of the most opportunities, illicit and otherwise, that you will find in Sharn.

Upper Dura

This ward is full of activity. While its full of people who manage to become successful, there's always a sense of desperation and a fear of losing what they have built that leads to many grasping for any possibility to further themselves. Upper Dura is generally regarded as a middle class ward, with most goods and services priced for a modest lifestyle. Some of its most well known districts include Clifftop (home for adventurers and mercenaries), Highhold (A dwarven district catering to House Kundarak), and Hope's Peak (A temple district including the Citadel of Light).

Middle Dura

Middle Dura caters to the working class. It has plenty of taverns to spend coin in, but at reasonable living costs that people who work for a living can afford. It's primarily full of residences, but most people travel to work outside of the ward. Middle Dura is mostly an upper lower class ward, with many people aspiring to escape Lower Dura and make a better life for their family here. Some of its most well known districts include The Bazaar (a collection of permanent shops and pop up tents selling the latest craze or magical invention) and Hareth's Folly (sporting games, including an enormous arena featuring aerial jousting and racing).

Lower Dura

Lower Dura is unfortunately an often ignored portion of the city. While the Precarious district is responsible for lifting deliveries up from Cliffside into the city, the rest of the ward has been mostly left to rot. It's largely ignored by the Watch, and instead is run by gangs and crime lords. The best way to avoid being robbed here is to either be a part of a gang, or simply don't own anything worth stealing. The Rich and powerful are content to steer clear of this area of the city, preferring to focus on improving their own districts instead. Some well known districts include Malleon's Gate (goblinoid community with amazing cuisine for those who can stomach it), Fallen (abandoned district, believed to be haunted since a falling tower ruined it), and Cliffside (a community built outside of the towers, into the cliffs at its base, full of Warehouses which hold goods waiting to be moved into the city).

Things to Do in Dura

Gamble. While gambling is legal in all wards, here in Dura you will find it less taxed and more... profitable.
Go Shopping. The Bazaar is an excellent source for exotic goods, while Clifftop has all your adventurer gear needed.
Bend the Law. Looking for a fence, or need to hire an assassin? Lower Dura is your one stop shop for all illicit activity.
Talk about the Race. Dura is home to the Race of the Eight Winds, and people here follow it religiously, using it as an escape for their terrible situation.
Suffer an accident. The Sharn Watch ignores much of Lower Dura, so visit at your own risk. If you go missing, it's doubtful you will ever be found.
