Devil Flower
Common plants of the Feywild
Basic Information
Anatomy
The Devil Flower is a deceptive specimen that most commonly grows in heavily forested areas. At first glance, they are beautiful, dark-purple flowers that can reach up to 12 inches across and have whiskers that can grow up to 28 inches long. However, you will only ever find these flowers growing in patches, as the main body of the plant is actually hidden beneath a thin layer of earth, sprouting multiple flowers as an extension of itself. In extreme cases, the part hidden underground can grow the size of a small cabin.
Ecology and Habitats
Devil Flowers are most commonly found in the territory of the Autumn Court.
Dietary Needs and Habits
The plant uses the flowers to secure its food. The flower's whiskers react to movement and immediately wrap around their targets, pulling them down to the ground, oftentimes triggering the whiskers of nearby flowers as well. The whiskers are covered in tiny barbs that help to secure unsuspecting prey by making it harder to rip them off but also by injecting their target with a numbing agent, effectively paralyzing their target. The prey is then slowly pulled underground, to what essentially is the plant's stomach, where it gets digested. I only know of a sole person, who survived being swallowed by the Devil Flower and they described the process as 'excruciatingly painful'.
