Raksharai (Rak-sha-sa)

From pride to shame

The rakshasa or raksharai was once a proud race of devils that ruled over the layer of Pride in the Seven Hells, however after the "Raksharai Rebellion", the devils and demons of the seven hells have grown to hate them and see rakshasa as nothing but low lives. This has led the rakshasa to flee the pride layer and hide within other realms, in hopes of restoring the once great raksharai pride.

The rakshasa employs delicacy and misdirection in its pursuit of dominion over others. Few creatures ever see the fiend in its true form, for it can take on any guise it wants, although it prefers to masquerade as someone powerful or influential: a noble, cardinal, or rich merchant, for example. A rakshasa’s true form combines the features of a human and a tiger, with one noteworthy deformity: its palms are where the backs of the hands would be on a human.

Though rakshasas, and the raksharai spirit originated long ago in the Seven Hells, the raksharai is long but dead within the Seven Hells. Rakshasa due to the "Raksharai Rebellion" has gone from being one of the top class devils within the Seven Hells to being a bottom feeder only out ranking low tier devils such as imps. The reasoning for this is because of the treachery committed during the "Raksharai Rebellion". As punishment for that, the raksharai was deem to be worthless and unfitting for being the prime devils of the pride layer. They were therefor set down to being nothing but measly slaves of the pride layer. Thereby raksharai or rakshasas as they are simply refermed to now, flee to the Material Realm as a means of escape from the torment of the Seven Hells.

For a rakshasa, death within the Material Realm means an agonizing and torturous return to the Seven Hells, where its essence remains trapped until its body reforms — a process that can take months or years. When the rakshasa is reborn, it has all the memories and knowledge of its former life, and it seeks retribution against the one who slew it. If the target has somehow slipped through its grasp, the rakshasa might punish its killer’s family, friends, or descendants.
