Medical Bay

The medical bay on the standard floor plan for prison stations is located one floor below the main level. It shares the floor with the fitness center and stretches from bow to midpoint. Directly below it are the breeding and mating halls. It is divided into three wings, one for the hybrids and the soldiers, one for humans, and one for housing medical personnel. There are three access points: an elevator access from the main floor, and an access directly from the dock tunnels, both on the stern end, and a bay access used for orientation for new arrivals from Earth and emergency transports on the bow end.
The wings are divided into three hallways. The starboard hallway is for hybrids and soldiers, the midlane is for humans, and port is housing. At both ends there are waiting rooms that stretch the width of the starboard and midlane halls. The port hall is key coded.
On the bay end is the amphitheater where the humans are first brought in as well as the initiation room for the first mating.
Full medical care is provided for the humans in their wing, including all stages of fertility, pregnancy, and recovery, as well as any other medical care they might need, both physical and psychological.
Hybrids are given a broad spectrum of care for curable diseases and reparable injuries, including prosthetics. A hybrid deemed to have an incurable or permanently damaging illness or irreparable injury, including loss of a sense, is euthanized.
Soldiers are treated for curable diseases and minor injuries. A soldier requiring long-term care is euthanized.
Infants are delivered in the medical bay and assessed before being transferred to the nursery or euthanized.
The medical staff is primarily hybrids of exceptionally high intelligence. Currently, all chief medics are trida. Humans with medical backgrounds are permitted to work in the medical bay, health and breeding status permitting, but live with the general human population.

Purpose / Function

To provide medical care to all prisoners, hybrids, and soldiers currently onboard the prison station.

Architecture

Most of the medical bay is utilitarian, reflecting the general aesthetic of EarthDef spaceships. On the women's side, the group meeting rooms and private long-term rooms are closer to a comfortably done terrestrial hospital room.
