Bond Aggression
Bond aggression is a condition caused when an alien-human hybrid who is being treated with a bond blocker manages to form a bond with a female anyway. This is seen most frequently between trida chief medics and human medical practitioners, as tridas have an extremely rapid and strong bonding drive and are frequently in the company of the same females.
In trida, the bond aggression typically manifests as insuppressible hostility toward the female in question and can lead to a murder-suicide scenario.
Causes
A hybrid given the standard bond blocker who is overly exposed to a female, as in emergency situation, may bond with her. Because of the bond blocker, that actual bond is mistranslated by the brain, causing otherwise inexplicable acts of aggression either because the brain mistranslates the bond as anger or because of black-outs when the brain can't interpret it as anything but a bond but refuses to.
Symptoms
Aggressively offensive behavior toward either the female or others who interact with her. Manipulation, deliberately putting the female in harm's way.
Extreme physically aggression which can lead to serious harm or murder. Again, either the female or others who interact with her, typically those who cause her harm or attempt some form of mating with her. The affected may also commit suicide, oftentimes in response to the physical damage they've just caused.
Treatment
There are three courses of treatment, as set out by the council of Chief Medics in response to the frequency this happens in Medical Bays.
The first course of action is to remove the female from a position of constantly affecting the female and then give the affected hybrid a concentrated dose of the bond blocker. In order to be effective, the female needs to be transferred off-ship.
The second course of action is to euthanize the affected hybrid.
The third course of action is to administer the antidote to the bond blocker, thus allowing the bond to be fully activated. This is not a sanctioned treatment, as relationships on breeder ships are forbidden, but technically there are no sanctioned treatments, as this condition has gone unreported to EarthDef, the chief medics instead designing their own treatment and handling it internally.
Prognosis
The bond can never be fully severed, so the aggression itself can be treated only as far as the genetics of the predominant alien species will allow. If the hybrid is not euthanized, he must be kept separated from the human forever or the bond will continually cause the aggression once the blocker concentrate wears off. Due to side effects, the concentrate cannot be prescribed long-term.
Affected Groups
Hybrids whose dominant species is capable of bonding
Prevention
Bond aggression is prevented by keeping the contact between hybrids and females minimal. Depending on the species of alien, the bond can form in as little as forty-eight hours, and even faster in high-stress situations.
