The Yonder Woods

Heavenly mountains, huge trees, and vast lakes and rivers have grown up since the official fall of civilization, granted, most were there already, but hush. These land forms defend many people who couldn't stand fight straight up. The relatively large population is due to the natural defenses and kind of clean water sources. Such sources are constantly contested militarily. Beauty marred by blood.

Geography

The Appalachian mountains have been a home for many factions since it all went sideways. The woods are thick, and roll over the ruins of the east coast of North America. All the way from the Mississippi River, to the shore of the Atlantic ocean. The glorious mountains themselves are a contested strategic asset, providing a nearly incontestable advantage to any warlord who possess it. Swamps in some low-lying areas are chocked full of people hiding from bandits, banding together into communities and organizations like the Lyncher-man Cults and the Bush-Hammers. Ruined cities have largely been ignored as dead, useless rusted heaps of failure, occasionally inhabited by sewer-dwelling refugees and gangsters. Geography shapes civilizations, the civilizations in The Yonder Woods civilizations are built around and on top of the woods themselves, and would be impossible without them.

Fauna & Flora

The forests are covered with a thick blanket of moss. At the bottom of the food chain, the squirrels, mice, deer, and other herbivorous. These are eaten copiously by coyotes, alligators, cougars, bears, eagles, feral cats, and the like. Also, there is an increasing number of northern-moving anteaters. The south american ants have moved north and are actively competing with their northern neighbors, and their predators have followed them. these beasts terrify the locals, often mistaken as devils, but are not aggressive towards humans.

Natural Resources

The reserves of coal and other precious minerals held in the Appalachian mountains are rarely exploitable by the communes of refugees, hideouts of bandits, and Lyncherman Cult villages. These resources generally require time, high demand, and advanced technology. Most people have exactly none of these. Most simply use the wood, grasses, and hunt the animals living there.
