Hebi

A collection of thousands of islands strung along the ocean, Hebi is home to a loose empire of related tribes. The islands are mostly dormant volcanoes, with a few lightly active ones. The people of Hebi have done well to cultivate the islands and create a network of farms, mines, fisheries, and logging communities that support each other quite well. Hebi is a peaceful region, the people there weary of outsiders, not that it is ever an easy task for outsiders to navigate the treacherous oceans that surround Hebi.

Geography

A collection of islands, great and small, east of the Pingmian Plains. Protected from the mainland in the west by a treacherous ocean, Hebi is bordered on the east by an endless sea.

Fauna & Flora

Much of the mountainous region is covered by bamboo, spruce, maple, and cherry blossom. The forests can be dense, but often harmless. Much of the local wildlife consists of small or medium sized rodents and scavengers that often leave the people alone.   Common raptors hunting mice, and crows stealing seed, are a regular sight near towns, villages, and farms.   Rumors of large, feral, man-like creatures near the peaks of mountains are common, but often these are considered legend with no truth to them.

Natural Resources

The main products of Hebi are rice, soy, cattle, and fish. Pork, lamb, and chicken are also mainstays of farming, but not as valued, and therefore not as heavily produced, as the other livestock.   Metals are important to the Hebi way of life, and gold, silver, and steel mines are common, but more important is wood. Logging is vital to the Hebi people, but is also heavily regulated. Resource protection is a top priority of the empire.   The Hebi do not often venture into the ancient ruins, and they rarely ever come into contact with outsiders, so trade in technological artifacts is not a booming industry. Often the Hebi people avoid ancient ruins out of fear and superstition.
