Peoples of the Rift

Strange lands breed strange peoples...

The people of the Rift are diverse and until recently, divided. There are five major groups that call the Rift home and acknowledge each other as natives of the Land.

Boglanders (Swamppers)

The first tribe of humans to inhabit the Rift lands settled on the slowly flowing rivers that flowed out of it, maintaining a degree of trade with the outside world at first, but eventually lapsing into comfortable obscurity. They are a warm kind people who are likely to welcome a stranger to their home. Some friction exists between them and the more recent Coasters, who live on the southern edges of the Rift.

Highland Nomads

During the final years of the Dark age, a tribe of orcs removed themselves from the darkness that spawned them and 'liberated' some captured humans. These humans were integrated into the tribe and the orcish blood was diluted enough to temper the tribes overly aggressive natures. The tribe grew and fractured, spreading these people throughout the high plains of the Rift. Though they are few, they are a common sight in the towns of the Rift, trading in hunted goods and living off of the land. They often join communities that they have developed a good rapport with, although the heritage of the orcs still has some stigma.

Lizard Folk

A race of sentient non-draconian reptiles call the eastern Rift swamps home. Known for their territorial nature, they exist in a state of near apathy at all times. These people could care less of the other peoples of the land and prefer to keep to themselves, only mobilizing if they feel their food supply is threatened.

Coasters

The most diverse peoples are the maritime people of the Rift, living along the coastlines and engaging with the greater world as a whole. Coasters subsist on the widest range of foods, enjoy more trade and engage in more piracy.

Islanders

Islanders are the people who live on the outer islands of the Rift. These people are isolated from the rest of the world, although they are known for their pearl-farming and sea craft. Most Islanders prefer a quiet lifestyle away from the rest of the Rift. Unfortunately they were the worst struck by Amons incurson.
