Drowlfhiem

Deep under the deserts of Sidion is the great city of Drowlfhiem. Built in the Underdark, it is a breathtaking monument to the sins of the Drow or Dark Elves.   The city is widely conical in shape. The top two thirds of the City are incredibly exclusive; no male may enter. The Female ruling class enforces the cunning power of the Drow with cold efficiency. No male may own anything that can be closed off or sealed. Thus, every mansion, every house, every tomb can be claimed by a female. The males live on the fringes of the society, building three walled huts to shelter in, and guarding the city in hopes of being selected to be a breeder.   In the heart of the city there is an arena. The floor of the arena is the highest point a male can ascend to. Gladiatorial matches are held amongst the breeding males on a regular basis to determine who may breed and who may not. there is no mercy. Few breeders live into the more advanced years, though the odd scandal of a powerful matron keeping one around out of love does arise. This is usually grounds for a demotion.   Houses are built around Grand Matrons. These women are cunning and shrewd, usually plotting against each other to maneuver into a position higher up in the city. They arrange mating rites for their daughters with winners in the arena and teach the arcane arts to their children. If the Matron chooses a successor she will introduce her to the keeper of her pact, demonic or otherworldly. This gives her successor an edge over any competition within the house and potentially over the Grand Matron herself.   The Drow have no qualms admitting outsider men into their city, so long as they fight in the arena. Half-elf children are prized as they may bring in new strength to the genepool. Humans, Tieflings, even Dwarves have fought, won, and bred in the depths of Drowlfhiem. Because of its reputation, location and local dangerous fauna, Drowlfhiem requires no magical defences. It is simply sitting there, waiting for someone to walk its Straight Path and partake of the madness therein.
