Cult of Shassi
Centralized on Kalana but existing in pockets all across Earhion, the Cult of Shassi worships the primeval kraken known as Shassi. The cult is outlawed in every settlement besides Kalana, where several of its leaders are important public figures, where they can conduct their strange attempts to summon the kraken in the open.
Structure
The cult has a pyramid structure, with two dozen leaders at the highest rank, twelve of which reside in Kalana and twelve of which are scattered across Earhion. The second-highest rank, known as Watchers, number at exactly eighty, and the lowest and most common rank, the Teeth, number around four hundred. If a leader dies, the other leaders hold a meeting to decide which Watcher will be promoted to replace them. When a Watcher dies, a random member of the Teeth under that Watcher's jurisdiction will be promoted.
Public Agenda
The cult worships Shassi and intends to gather enough followers to make her into a demigod, with the expectation that she would reward them for doing so. In the long-term, many of the cult's leaders plan to gather enough followers to promote her even higher among the divine ranks.
Assets
Around half a dozen large ships, two dozen smaller boats, several thousand gold worth of treasure, and enough weapons and armor to equip a very small army.
History
The first record of the Cult of Shassi dates from 663 AM, making the cult just over a century old. Shassi had been in Earhion for much longer, but her first worshippers only began to gather on that date. They were in isolated, secretive pockets across Earhion until around 740 AM, when the first cult leaders moved to the dark haven of Kalana, and from then on, the cult was a permanent fixture of the Scavenged Island.
