Auderel

Auderel is a picturesque, sunny coastal town right on the edge of the Great Plain that separates Northern and Southern Men.

Demographics

Most citizens are of Northern descent, yet a spattering of common Southern and Vrenian peoples reside in the town as well

Government

After the Haendorians originally ran the town as a far-off port city, later peoples settled it virtually as an extremely small city-state with its own informal government. Afterwards, it became a small province of the growing political movement of a democratic-like government system.

Defences

Though the wall built by the Haendorians stands strong to this day, there are a few hidden breaches in the wall, and the inhabitants of Auderel are mere fisherfolk and farmers.

Industry & Trade

The town is mainly self-sufficient, yet merchants often travel through and exchange some of their goods in exchange for a bed and a meal or two.

Infrastructure

The Haendorians built the town from many beautiful yet simple stone villas, and the roads were paved with immaculately smooth cobblestones. To keep the wandering beasts of the nearby plains at bay, they also constructed a strong ten-foot wall around the backside of the settlement. Though the wall is not very thick, it is nearly impossible damage through brute force.  Like all Haendorian settlements, Auderel was burned in the great fires that ended Haendorian civilization. However, later wandering peoples found the abandoned granite bones of the city and re-thatched many of the rooves for them to live under. As well as this, they added docks and piers and built boats for fishing.

Assets

The outer perimeters of Auderel have been filled with fruit orchards and grape vineyards which the citizens tend to and live off of. Fish is plentiful in their waters, and hunting expeditions may yield a fine plains-goat every once in a while.

Architecture

Although Haendorians built Auderel, it is less characteristic of the typical tall and grand structures that make up most Haendorian works. The villas are mainly low to the ground and only a very few buildings towards the center of the city are more than one story tall. The city was built mainly as a quiet outpost where one could enjoy nature and the fair ocean breeze.

Geography

Auderel was built on the gentle slope of a small bay looking out to the vast ocean. Lush, calm forest surrounds it, and a river feeds out into the sea nearby. However, the wall surrounding Auderel looks out to a vast grassy plain where many wild animals roam. This plain is no-man's land, yet every once in a while, the small town receives a wandering traveler or merchant on the long road between the North and South looking for a good night's rest from the endless plateaus of grass and brush.

Author's Notes

Yes, I know that at one point I wrote "rooves" instead of the grammatically accurate "roofs" but here, we follow the rules of our hearts, and my heart said rooves
