The Isle of Etryos

"I went into Etryos dreaming of unholy amounts of riches and ancient artifacts, but all i got was a missing arm and a considerable amount of life experience. Some day i'll return, but this time with a bit more preparation..." - Aelduin Thirenor, elvish explorer and author
Etryos is a massive island on the eastern coast of southern Etrye that once was host to a great civilization now lost to time. While the coastal regions of the island have been mostly settled and cultivated by mainlanders, the inner part of Etryos remains a wild, thick rainforest filled with dangerous flora, fauna and terrain.
Despite the dangers of said wilderness, countless people venture into it every year on the search for the ancient ruins of the Acaien, a now almost extinct race of amphibian humanoids that built a great empire on Etryos that was seemingly wiped out in an instant by an unknown, but most likely geographical event.

Geography

Etryos is a massive island mostly covered in a thick, primal rainforest. There are also a few small mountains in the inner part of the island that are mostly covered in forest, as well as a vast swamp on the south-eastern side of Etryos. The coast mostly consists of long stretches of sandy beaches that sometimes go multiple kilometres inland before giving way to the countless trees of Etryos' rainforest.

Fauna & Flora

The massive rainforest that covers most of the island consists of a great number of different species of trees, bushes and large ferns that create an ensemble of thick stems, thorny branches and sharp, cutting leaves that make traversing the rainforest a difficult and taxing experience. In addition to these plants, there are an unusually large number of flowers and similar smaller plants only found on Etryos, such as the rare and elusive Bard's Lily, a small blue flower constantly emitting a pleasant, steady humming sound.
The animals that live in these jungles are mostly big apes and cats that live in the trees and usually only come to the ground to hunt and mate. There have been rumours that a very small number of Acaien survived, but the event that spurred this rumor - a fresh Acaien corpse brought onto the mainland by an explorer - turned out to be an elaborate hoax, making the credibility of this rumour quite low.
There also is confirmation for at least one green dragon living on one of the mountains, with evidence pointing to the existence of at least one other dragon and there are some passageways into the underdark through which underdark denizens sometimes venture onto the surface.

Natural Resources

While there are a few plants that are used in the creation of sought after potions and alchemical tinctures, the main natural resource of Etryos is the aptly named Etryum, a rare and quite useful metal that, so far, has only been found on Etryos. It is presumed that large quantities of this metal exist in the innermost parts of the island, but so far the Etryans have only managed to construct two mines on the island that haven't been destroyed by natural disasters or local wildlife.
Because of this, the metal is exceedingly rare and only used by the Sultans' court and a few very rich people. There are only seven blacksmiths that have the knowledge to work with this metal, with all but one of them being workers under the Sultan. The most notable use of the metal is the armor that the sultan and his most trusted guards wear into battle - magnificent suits of gleaming armor beset with gemstones and beautifully carved murals.
