Magic

Magic is a broad term that refers to the ability influence the world through Aetheric Energy. Magic can be seen in large scale cosmic events (such as the great expansion) and also in the personal arts of mages. Magical theory has changed greatly over time, and has been a key factor in shaping the progression of the world.   Realm Theory states that aetheric energy is split into three categories: spiritual, physical, and mental. Spiritual aetheric energy (or speric energy) is based on the organization of the forces acting on an object. It is derived from the causes of any specific event. Physical aetheric energy (pheric energy) is based on the organization of the current state of an object. It is related to, but distinct from, normal physical energy such as electrical, thermal or kinetic energy. Mental aetheric energy (meric, or occasionally meta energy) is based on the organization an object's energy. It is derived from the patterns of energy within an object such as its heat flow, chemical changes, or (as in the case of the mind) electrical connections.   Angels, dragons, and gods are all beings that can exist solely because of the manipulation aetheric energy, with angels and gods not being 'beings' apart from it. The human derivatives evolved as a result of a greater capacity for spiritual, mental and physical aetheric energy respectively.   Magecraft is the art of using the aetheric energy generated by the body to influence the outside environment. The common accepted model for the requirements and subcategories of mages is the OEP model, which breaks mages into 90 categories. A mage can manipulate one of ten elements using one of nine different methods. The OEP model is derived from the theories of realm theory, though modern unified magic theory (UMT) slightly modifies both to incorporate them together.
