Solem
Named for the deity Sol, this religion follows the lesser-known (and more widely mocked) of this world's four deities. Focusing largely on the belief that Sol will ultimately bring judgement to every soul before they're able to pass on to Bright (which they also believe is a physical afterlife, rather than a four-dimensional space inhabited only by souls/ethereal beings). They also believe the use of conjuration magic and necromancy to any degree is frowned upon by their deity--that, rather than beings from Bright, they are in fact demons whose goal is solely to wreak havoc on Dwell and its inhabitants.
Their lifestyle centers more around avoiding sin than evangelism or pushing some philosophy, making them an extremely easy target for some of the less respectful groups in Dwell (especially followers of Mal). Their contribution to society as a whole is practically zero, so they are also shrinking both in size and influence.
Culture
Their culture is all about the "don'ts" rather than the "do's", and as such, tend to encourage traditional ideologies over more progressive ones, though they don't really have any official stances when it comes to government policy. That said, their demographic (which is more present in Bane) does still vote, which influences some local government behaviors... but not much.
The Solemi home is very passive to the larger world, which is probably their strongest appeal. Their belief system encourages focusing on your own life--creating order, routine, and living a fairly predictable life with little to no extreme indulgences. Needless to say, it's not uncommon for Solemi kids to grow weary of this and identify as a Malfecent, especially since the two groups are, for the most part, very close together. Apart from systematically populating Mal's followers, they are also extremely sensitive to things that are "weird". Their culture is far from adaptive, meaning things like homosexuality or interracial families (while not specifically prohibited) are generally not welcomed in Solemi settlements. They do not approve of the elven education system, though they're still forced to adhere to it thanks to their government (sometimes with a few deviations).
Overall, they're probably the least noteworthy category in the entire world... apart from their status as the victim of most of the world's mischief.
Divine Origins
Sol was first mentioned by both Ryn and Enna during their most famous peaceful intervention in mortal affairs, mentioning that there were two others like them (Mal and Sol) who were less interested in directly interfering. Their roles were largely unclear until a while later, when a few casual mentions of these mysterious deities led the public to adopt a certain image of what those deities were like. In the case of Sol... they had very little to go off of. Only two things are currently known:
- He exists.
- He deals with some form of judgement involving souls.
Tenets of Faith
- Avoid sexual perversion.
- Do not kill.
- Do not be dishonest.
- Respect authority.
- Do not worship false gods.
- Do not pursue needless indulgences.
- Do not wear jewelry
- Do not intentionally damage your body in any way.
