Mezro

Mezro was the first and last kingdom of Chult, the greatest empire in the entirety of Chult's long history. Renowned for their libraries and schools of arcane and divine magic, Mezro was a sanctuary for all peoples of Chult to live in peace.   At its height of power, Mezro was one of the most powerful kingdoms in the world. But in a prolonged war with its rival, the kingdom of Omu, both kingdoms were undone in a terrible cataclysm and their peoples scattered. The ruins of Mezro can be found near a river delta south of Port Nyanzaru.   Founded by Ubtao himself and ruled by a chosen circle of paladins, the Barae. There were always seven Barae, those who die are succeeded by another chosen by Ubtao and undergo a trial called the Maze of Life, success heralds a new Barae, failure is an honored place at Ubtao's side.   The last Barae of Mezro, each gifted with powers befitting their station:   Negus negusti (prince of princes, or king) Osaw, the last king of Mezro, was a just and noble soul who shouldered the burden of the crown with dignity.   Negus (prince) Kwalu, son of King Osaw and commander of Mezro's greatest warriors, the Five Winds. His living descendants are Princess Mwaxanare and Prince Na.   Ras (duke) Nsi, brother of King Osaw and general of Mezro's armies.   Mainu, the Queen of the Rivers, a member of the Aldani tribe, and mistress of Chult's waters.   Fipya was the newest member of the Barae to be inducted into their ranks. A young commoner girl, who had become one of the most powerful people in the world.   Dhlamass was the only foreigner in the history of Mezro to pass the Maze of Life and gain Ubtao's blessing.   Alisanda was the daughter of Dhlamass and protector of the temple of Ubtao.
