Poindexter's Pen

Poindexter's Pen is a magical artifact that belonged to a renown 19th century mage and daemonologist William Poindexter. It is said that any contract that was signed with this pen was magically binding, though the exact methods of which the pen worked are unknown. Some have suggested that Poindexter used the pen to make contracts with daemons, while others insist it was created to control other mages, and some even claim that the pen was gifted to him by the true fae. Because the pen was lost in history and is yet to be found, none of these claims can be declared as truth or false.

While Poindexter's Pen is a lost artifact, some descriptions from Poindexter's time exist. The pen is believed to be a dip with a fine metallic nib mounted in a handle made of bone. The nib is described to have magical marks carved in it, that some have speculated could actually be Faerie Runes. The bone the handle is made of has not been identified, other than being described to be "very white, like ivory". This has made imagination's run wild, and different materials have been suggested from dragon bone to the finger bones of a human - which is a very unlikely scenario, as the pen is supposed to be of a normal size, to which a finger bone would not fit.

Poindexter's Pen is one of the magical artifacts that many seek after. Most of Poindexter's belongings were auctioned after his supposed death, so there is a change the pen might appear somewhere unexpected at some point.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Like almost everything with Poindexter's Pen, the exact method in which it works is unknown. However, the most popular theory suggest that Poindexter engraved the nib with magical markings that are activated when a name is written with it. It is debated whether the pen itself is enough to create a binding contract, or if some certain wording is also needed in the paper itself.
