Guild Leader Lester Shephard

Guild Leader Lester Shephard

The current leader of the Shadow Slayers Guild, Lester has earned a reputation for being tough but fair to his fellow slayers and has made great strides in cultivating a positive public image for the guild.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Shephard has been a prominent figure in Bingtown life for four decades, whether due to his prowess as a member of the Erathian Church or due to his defiant refusal to bow to their whims. This reputation has often gotten in the way of his personal relationships, with several prospective long-term partners being eventually driven away by his self-perceived notions of public responsibility. As a result, he never took the time to start a family or develop any form of legacy, which has led many of his critics to label his mentorship of the Shadow Slayers as an elaborate mid-life crisis.

Employment

As a promising member of the Order of the Sword, there were already whispers of the young Shephard being the one to amass the political power necessary to restore the rank of Grand Master Sword, while also being likeable enough that people looked forward to it. Acolytes would stare at him in awe as he walked the halls of the church, and many priests and clerics alike would seek out his counsel, despite his youth. However, tempers rose from all sides as Shephard became more and more popular and amassed more power. The other Orders of the church were not at all excited to be under Sword rule, and so they began hindering the activities of the Swords.   Just a decade after the arrival of the Newbloods and the political landscape began to shift and change, the Fall of Peloria began to reach new heights. It was during this that Shephard earned his notorious nickname of Steelspine, due to his refusal to back down to the other heads of the Orders when they chose not to honour the request made of them by the Pelorians of Ishar. Shephard argued that the commandments of both Bane and Erathis called them to war, but the other Order Masters refused to agree. As a result, Shephard quit the church and went to join the war for Peloria, before returning 3 years later.   Those who knew him best claim he came back a different man, less impetuous and somehow even more critical of the Erathian Church. He now simply uses his reputation to bring business to the Shadow Slayers, while furthering his own mysterious political goals.
