Avalyn Naiol

Wife of Alessandro Santos Eizan, mother of Fieyaloren Naiol and founding member of The Grey Swords, Avalyn accomplished much with her life before it was tragically cut short at the hands of Na'Keks.

A Life of Nobility

Ava was born to a wealthy high elf family in the city of Laansari, who recognised she was destined to grow into a phenomenally intelligent woman. For much of her childhood Ava devoted herself to studies, both mundane and arcane, in order to further her family name and wealth. As she blossomed into womanhood, Ava made several important discoveries for her family and became the first of her family to unlock the third circle of the arcane arts since the retreat of the Gods caused such knowledge to become lost. Had her life continued in this way, Ava would have eventually become the matriarch of the family and an unrivalled practitioner of magic. Unfortunately, being accused of the murder of your father can halt a promising career in its tracks. After being caught literally red-handed in her fathers study, her uncle arriving on the scene just in time to see his brothers lifeforce flow freely from his neck, Ava was immediately arrested and sentenced to death. An overwhelming amount of evidence made sure Avalyn Naiol was never given a chance to tell her side of the story: that she had been framed and had only come across the body of her father mere moments before her uncle arrived on the scene. Luckily, she had made alliances of her own that did not rely on her reputation as the future matriarch of a powerful household. Using one of these alliances, Ava conspired with House Loirafene and managed to escape her jailers. She fled Laansari and never returned.

Life on the Run, and The Grey Swords

Traumatised by the death of her father and feeling betrayed by her uncle, Avalyn Naiol chose simply to stop feeling and caring about the world. She found work as a bounty hunter and lived contract to contract, travelling the Eastern Isles and getting as far from Laansari as she could. Ava became quite a prolific and sought after agent, eventually catching the eye of the Lords and Ladies of Basingse. Various noble families hired her services, using her as someone who could not only solve their problems, but also do it in an intelligent manner. It is in her role as such an agent that Ava had her first encounters with Alessandro, who performed similar contract work for other, often rivalling, families. The two despised each other, which was the first true emotion Ava had felt since she fled her family home. Eventually the two put their differences aside long enough to prevent the city of Basingse from eating itself alive during the Desolation, working alongside three others: Sherrali Moondancer, Sa'Shek and Na'Keks. This night bonded the five strangers together for life, and they founded The Grey Swords the next morning.

Early Retirement

After four years of travelling with The Grey Swords, the time came for the party to disband and go their separate ways, but not without celebrating a special occasion: the marriage of Avalyn Naiol and Alessandro Santos Eizan. After a wonderful service, with Sa'Shek acting as best man for Alessandro, Sherrali acting as maid of honour for Ava, and Na'Keks walking Ava down the aisle, the group parted ways for what was to be the final time. Ava and Alessandro retired to a small cottage in order to start a family, and Fieyaloren was born less than 15 months later. The couple spent 8 loving years doting on their daughter before receiving a mysterious summons from the Lords of Basingse, apparently concerning something that they had spent the intervening years researching... It tore Ava up inside to leave Fiey alone in the world, but she promised herself she would return soon. She simply had to be sure the world was not in imminent danger. The pair departed for Peloria, in hopes of a rendezvous with Sa'Shek. They never made that meeting. Instead, the pair were led astray and ultimately captured and imprisoned by the Cult of Tharizdun. It is there that Ava died, without ever finding out about the woman her little girl had become.
