Harold’s Forest

The forest of Legend

Harold’s Forest extends south from the Dodin mountain range, all the way to the edge of the sea. Full of all kinds of strange creatures, it is the largest swath of land to remain uncharted. Every settlement attempt inside the boundaries of the forest has failed. This is the forest where the legendary talking tree, Harold, is supposed to live. Very few people know for certain if Harold does actually exist or not, and even fewer actually travel to the southernmost end to find out. Also called Dodin’s Grave, this is the place where Dodin, the great explorer, is said to have died while defending the dwarves from the shadow creatures.

Geography

The bulk of the forest is on mostly flat land, but the northern edge of it covers the Dodin mountain range. The trees are large and grow very close together. In the winter time the pine trees stand out against the mountain snow.

Fauna & Flora

Many types of pine trees thrive here, along with oak, maple, and hickory trees. Poison oak and ivy make up a significant portion of the undergrowth, along with a few types of wildflowers where the sun peeks through. Rabbits abound, along with deer and other mammals. A type of Raehali lives in the lower parts of the forest. The Harold forest is also home to strange shadow creatures that seem unaffected by human weapons. Birds of prey are rare, since the dense forest makes it difficult for them to hunt properly. Songbirds thrive, and there is very rarely a quiet moment under the canopy. The insects are large, and most of them bite.

Natural Resources

There are plenty of natural resources, including wood, fruit, vegetables, and meat. Unfortunately the strange creatures that live there keep anyone from using them.
