The Order of Dragons

The Order of Dragons is an elite organization made up of the those in charge of the well-being of Greensborough.

History

The Order of Dragons was formed in 1778, during the American Revolution. Many in Greensborough were conflicted on their place in a war for independence; their place in this new land was fragile, and revealing their abilities to turn the tides in this war was a very dangerous and frightening prospect. The current leadership of the township--Amedeus Greene--gathered his most trustworthy associates to come up with a solution; and come up with a solution they did.   A small force of their men departed for the battlefields, each with the orders to keep their abilities hidden, but use them as they could. This changed the course of the war, leading to an American victory just two years later, when previously all hope seemed lost.   Following the end of the war, Amedeus and his associates came to realize that this town needed more guidance than a single mayor could give them. As such, the Order of Dragons took a name, and an oath to protect and guide their community, by any means necessary.   The 1900s saw a shift in the structure of the Order. For generations, it had been the trusted friends and advisors of the town mayor, sworn in via oath to assist in the guidance of Greensborough. Following the second World War, however, Mayor Bardell knew things must be done differently. He did away with the Dragon Oath; there were things more important than words, after all. And the Order could no longer be only his friends: change was coming, had already come, and he was going to need several points of view to move into the future. Bardell appointed a new Principal of their young Dracoshire Academy, and brought him into the ranks of the Order. He brought in those working in their local government. He brought in the heads of the Old Blood families. And he set up a structure that has lasted ever since. It was Bardell's son that came up with the rhyme:   Twenty members to the Order   And Twenty members just   Keeping watch o'er the Dragons   As they know they must   Loyal and devout are they   To this calling they are true   Until the Dragons thus awake   To keep their watch o'er you   There is no known meaning to this rhyme, though it helps establish Bardell's rule of having exactly twenty members to the Order. No record was kept on what dragons were being referred to. Many believe it to be the active imagination of a child, and nothing more.   While the meaning to this rhyme is not publicly known, the dragons in question are the students of the academy, and the dragons awakening refers to the students growing up and taking over the care of the Order.

Now
