The Island of MIdal

The Island of Midal, directly north of the nation of Olaedo, is one of the few landmasses left nearly uninhabited. Following the collapse of Heffa the global community was faced with the challenge of disposing of an unimaginable number of bodies. While many were put to rest on family plots throughout Heffa, some given to the Oliyaks, most had no place to go. Many remained unidentified as well. In order to avoid the desecration associated with mass graves hundreds of thousands of bodies were flown out of the country to be buried in seemingly endless rows of graves lining the Island of Midal. The Island of Midal was an ideal choice because it was uninhabited long before the disaster. Following the death of its indigenous population in its early history the island was never home to any long-term settlement. This was so for a number of reasons. The first obstacle was the island's rugged terrain and meager food sources. The second reason was the dangerous currents and frequent storms that plague the portion of the Tirsa Sea surrounding the island. The last and most enduring reason the island was avoided was the history of the Pucondere Colony. The colony was established by the nation of Alga in 2283. Not long after beginning the colony underwent a complete collapse. The reasons for this collapse are not entirely known but its often attributed to the fact that many of its residents were reported as having gone collectively mad. Today it's believed that this madness may have been due to a fungus the colonists were inadvertently ingesting through their water supply. Despite this discovery, people remain fearful of the isolated island and likely would remain away even if it were not for the massive graveyard now situated on the majority of the landmass.
