Esmuna Kauquin

Esmuna Kauquin, often shortened to Kauquin, is a biannual festival dedicated to the planet Edeni. Edeni, the largest planet in the solar system, features prominently in the night sky twice a year when its orbit makes it visible from Doru and its rotation causes it to reach its greatest illuminated extent. This means that this point in time is when the illuminated portion of Edeni covers the largest swath of Doru's sky. It becomes the brightest object in the night sky by some magnitude.    Though this phenomena can be seen anywhere on Doru the celebration of it is practiced most widely in the tri-nations of Sube, Greine, and Kobehtzi. In the modern era the festival is held as a matter of cultural heritage yet at its inception the gathering was deemed to be of much greater importance. At that time little was understood about the nature of planets and thus the inhabitants did not understand the event as a stage in Edeni's orbit. Rather they thought the glowing orb was an entirely new object that only emerged twice a year before disappearing again. It was believed that the celestial body was some sort of divine beacon wielded by the supreme diety Esmuna. Followers of Esmuna believed that the light appearing indicated that Esmuna was once again searching the universe for worthy beings to welcome into her holy kingdom. The festival was established to display both their devotion and culture. It was meant to express their love for the deity and to show off their societies most beautiful creations. Often this took the form of various crafts such as pottery, paintings, textiles, and sculptures. The revelation of the true nature of the event did little to dampen people's commitment to the celebration. As such it remains one of the most widely celebrated events in the three nations.
