Savage Divide

Separating the The Glass Desert from the Steadfoot Pass, the savage divide is a rocky, jagged canyon that moves the rivers from the north into the Mosstein Bay. The Divide would be almost as lifeless as the desert below it, if not for the monsters and men that prey on travelers looking to pass into and out of the Steadfoot Pass without making the long and treacherous journey through the Maggiore Mountains. Various groups have sought to construct bridges across the Divide but none have properly come to fruition and all that remains is simple scaffolding. In order to properly cross the Divide one must walk the various natural and man-made ramps that gradually snake their way into the ground, and then do the same after crossing the river in order to get back up to the surface. At the bottom of the canyon lies most of the danger, as groups of uncivilized humanoids have holed up in the abandoned mine shafts and monsters are searching for their next meal. Travelers passing through the Divide must move quickly, and not dwell too long at the bottom of the canyon. Lest they become memories washed away into the bay.

Geography

At the edge of The Glass Desert, it gradually fades to become a flat wasteland of cracked sandstone, limestone, and salt. In the center of this lies the Divide, a canyon that connects to the Mosstein Bay and is the exit point for rivers flowing out of the Maggiore Mountains. The jagged and multi-layered canyon tells a story of these rivers constantly shrinking and growing, freezing and melting as they eventually make their way into the canyon, carving the rock as they progresses towards the bay. Due to this jagged nature of the rock, the canyon is climbable for those seeking to avoid the main pathways-- but it is ill-advised to do so as soft or broken rock could become loose and break off, sending anything or anyone attached to it tumbling down into the river.

Ecosystem

Devoid of all plant life, the Divide is home to many predators hunting one another, as well as those unprepared to make the treacherous journey. Various animals from the surrounding mountains do make their way to the Divide to take advantage of the abundant salt licks found within the rock, providing a rare yet reliable food source for anything or anyone lucky enough to catch one.

Localized Phenomena

Due to the proximity of the bay, it is not uncommon for storms to roll into the Divide. Lightning can send rock tumbling down the walls of the canyon, and winds can dislodge loose, soft rock.

Natural Resources

In the soil above, salt deposits dot the sun-baked landscape. Below, however, lies soft rock laden with mineral deposits thousands of years old, likely put there by the Mosstein Bay. Mining projects from long ago still remain at the bottom of the canyon, a home for creatures of all kinds.
