Duredhel

Founded by Leoris Rilisgala after he stumbled upon an abandoned Dwarven Fortress, Duredhel is a free town that lies within the Meneglin Forest. It was built with the fundamental values of protecting the Meneglin and allowing the wild, untamed world to do what it pleases outside of the walls. These large cyan-gray walls surround the center of the town, defended by Dwarven technology and Elven magic in harmony with the surrounding forest. Much of the outer businesses are general stores, hotels, and stables, taking advantage of the frequent traders and travelers stopping to rest. But as one nears the center of the town, one will find buildings dedicated to the research, refinement, and distribution of Menril, a magical-blue liquid densely packed with energy, and one of Duredhel's main exports. Menril is used in defense, magics, alchemy, and more. Food is provided through the surrounding farms, and while hunting is a viable source of food, meat is rarely found in the diet of someone living in Duredhel-- damaging the forest and it's inhabitants goes against the core values of Leoris and his followers, who believe strongly that the natural world holds much more value than that of the developed one.

Demographics

Founded by Nomads and ruled by a wanderer, Duredhel has become somewhat of a rest stop for most. What residents do decide to stay, mostly stay for magical and mechanical research of the surrounding forest. As such, a majority of the permanent population is Elven and Dwarven, constantly competing among one another to have to most breakthrough knowledge of Menril and the Menril Trees that contain it. The Elven population is mostly comprised of Moon Elves who heard stories of Leoris Rilisgala and are eager to walk the wilderness themselves.

Government

Leoris Rilisgala founded Duredhel out of the ruins of an old Dwarven Fortress, after discovering the irreversible damage they had been doing to the Meneglin Forest in pursuit of Menril. Since then, he has been a leader that works for the people, regularly hosting town-hall style meetings where the citizens can air their grievances. Very few disputes are yet to be resolved in the town, and even then, they are very minor.

Defences

A set of large wooden and stone walls encircles the center of Duredhel, a remnant from the Dwarven ruins that once lay abandoned here. Atop these walls sit various mechanical defenses, most lost to time, but some still in working order. Self-loading crossbows manned by the prideful people of Duredhel are the detriment to any would-be threats, if they could manage to shoot an accurate shot.

Industry & Trade

Much of the town's exports are containers of Menril, exclusive to the Meneglin Forest and an extremely sought-after component by alchemists, artificers, and all of those in-between. The high price makes it a viable export, but extraction methods are slow and expensive, meaning little profit is ever made with the current technology. Most citizens work to protect the town, produce a supply of food, and research/extract Menril.

Infrastructure

While much of the old dwarven infrastructure has crumbled, some still remains. The town's waterwell is an impressive, entirely mechanized structure that constantly pumps water from below ground, and automatically watering crops within it's walls. Another surviving structure is the strong and secure Menril storage vats, buried deep underground to prevent any damage to the ever-precious material.

Architecture

Wood from Menril Trees is a cyan-colored, sturdy material that makes up a large part of the buildings within Duredhel. This wood combined with stone from the earth has developed an architecture style much like that of the forest itself, chaotic yet beautiful in it's own way.

Natural Resources

Menril Trees are harvested for both wood and Menril, a substance exclusive to the Meneglin Forest and the only major natural resource found within it.
