Jal Paeridor

The once peaceful town of Jal Paeridor lies on the Orien trade route between Taer Valaestas and Pylas Maradal in the kingdom of Valenar. The main purpose of the initial outpost was to serve as a midway point where travelers could spend the night and change horses. Over time, this particular outpost grew into a small community of half-elven farmers.   One fateful day, however, disaster struck. While helping out his father on the cabbage fields, a young boy called Halaer Paralei found a small iron drinking flask. Thinking it was his fathers' and he might be able to taste his first sips of brandy, he opened the lid. What came out was not the rich smell of a carefully distilled spirit, but a rotten stench of spoiled meat. "Hello," a deep gnarly voice said. Behind him stood the strangest and most frightening creature Halaer had ever seen. A shriveled up old man, with a black coat spread over his shoulders and a face twisted in horrible agony leaned forward and grabbed him by the shoulder. "Thank you for freeing me from that dark place, now tell me, what would you like me to do?" With a shriek of pure terror, the young lad fell back and ran back home.   Later that night, horrible noises could be heard in the streets, accompanied by hideous cackles of the same gnarly voice Halaer had heard before. Afraid the strange flask might connect him to what was currently happening outside, he decided to quickly sneak outside and discard of the vile object in the water well where no one would find it. Hiding from the noises and with some help from heavy cloud cover, he snuck outside and made it to the well. Right after dropping the flask, the same shriveled hand grabbed him by the shoulder. "Should have told me to go away. Too late for that now!" A shrill, horrifying scream escaped young Halaers voice, followed by dark laughter.   Where it once was a home to over 250 people, it is now a desolate ghost town. Who knows, new people might come to reclaim it. It is a strategic location after all...
