Soapbox

Theodore Jones (a.k.a. Soapbox)

Soapbox, civilian name Theodore Jones, is a Rogue Master responsible for the Dunwich Takeover and the subsequent group suicides that occurred in Dunwich, Massachusetts in 1989.   He is considered to be the most powerful Master-type super on Earth.   Since his arrest, he is serving out a prison sentence of a record length of 152 life sentences in North Branch.

Physical Description

Special abilities

Soapbox power allows him to implant ideas and opinions in other people's minds. These abilities are both limited by hearing range and proximity, but do not fade after leaving either. Any changes are therefore permanent. Changes do not register as foreign to the person influenced by his power, and are instead wholeheartedly believed to be theirs.   Secondary effects such as the rationalisation of conflicting believes and wrong memories were originally suspected to have been caused by his power as well, but have since been reclassified to be psychological consquences of his power that occurred in the victims without any direct influence from Soapbox.

Apparel & Accessories

Soapbox wore no costume at any point prior to his imprisonment. He was subsequently charged for operating as a super while not clearly marked as such after his arrest.

Personal history

Jones was born in 1964 in Salem, Massachusetts to Archibald Bradshaw and his mistress Cynthia Jones. The result of an unwanted pregnancy, Bradshaw had no interest in attaching himself to the child and broke off the relationship with Jones prior to the child's birth. Determined to raise the child on her own, Jones worked hard, likely leading to feelings of abandonment and isolation in the young boy.   Jones was reported missing for half a week in 1973, but showed up no worse for wear later.   Described by old teachers as a "loner" and "shy to a fault", Jones was nontheless a bright child and excelled in school from an early age. Around the age of twelve, he began to overcome his social awkwardness and became more popular with his peers, though it is debated to this day when exactly his powers began to manifest and whether this sudden change in him was merely a result of their manifestation.   By the end of his time in school, Jones was described as one of the most popular kids not only in his class, but in his year. His still excellent grades made it easy for him to secure a scholarship at Miskatonic University. There, he began studying chemistry. His peers describe that his time at college and university changed Jones, who had almost certainly awoken to his powers by this point. He began to have throw wild parties, took drugs and cared less and less for his studies. He eventually dropped out of university. According to some 'friends' of his, he had lost all interest in mundane pursuits, as everyone would always be easy for him anyway.   Shortly afterwards, Jones moved to Dunwich. It is not clear when he began to influence his fellow residents.   In 1989, his machinations in the town were finally discovered by authorities outside of his control. He was subsequently arrested, causing the deaths a large amounts of those under his control in the process. He was put on trial for countless charges of first-degree murder, numerous heavy violations of the Human/Superman Regulations Act and various other offenses. The jury found him guilty and he was imprisoned in East Branch. After it's completion, he was one of the first prisoners to be transferred to North Branch years later.
