Parrot

/*Mi-ran*/

/*Park*/

(a.k.a.

/*"Miriam"*/

, Beak)

Parrot is a Thinker-type indepedent Super operating as an information broker in Cape St. Joan, Oregon. Known to sell her services to sanctioned supers and rogues alike, as well as being a beneficiary of the local independent super scene, she is perhaps most famous for the truce she mediated between sanctioned supers and rogues during "D-Day".

Physical Description

Physical quirks

Her shoulders always look a bit drooping.

Special abilities

Her powers are unknown, but due to her uncanny ability to learn of things she should not know, as well as her business as an information broker that seems to be in no need of any actual informats, it is presumed that she is a high-class Thinker. Official designation as of January 2023 puts her as a Thinker 7 due to the high potential threat she could pose to the secret identities of supers.

Apparel & Accessories

Her costume is skin-tight, but she usually wears a feathery cape around it that hides most of her body beneath.

/*If mobility is needed, she can simply drop the cape.*/

Both suit and cape have a dark blue-green colour scheme to it, a more dark and stealth-oriented rendition of a parrot's colours.   A two-part mask covers her face: One part covers the area around her eyes and the bridge of her nose. It too is vaguely bird-reminiscent, giving a bit of a Venice carnival mask vibe. The second part covers her mouth and nose itself with a long leathery beak-like structure. The lower part, just like the cape, is easily dropped when it gets in the way. Both mask-parts are of black colour.   She has a small compartment strapped to her costume via a belt to carry around some small objects she deems important.

Personal history

Miriam was born on 3. November 2002 as the first of three children in a middle-class family, in Cape St. Joan. Her parents had only recently relocated to the United States, as Miriam's father Dae-seong Park, a professor of Human Biology and genetics, was collaborating with the local pharmaceutical company Medicure Pharmaceuticals on clinical trials of a newly developed drug.   Enjoying their new lifes in the States, her parents decided to stay if they could afford it. However, as Dae-seong was trying to find employment at an American university, he continued worked in Seoul at the Seoul National University, visiting his family back in the States only a few times per year.   Though she grew up bilingual, Miriam always considered herself American, not Korean and always uses English when possible. As her mother was alone with Miriam, then later with her and the other children, it later fell to her as the oldest child to look out for her two younger siblings, Mason and Jessica, to help her mother. After an early childhood that was hardly notable, she proved a dedicated pupil once in school and was of the type to easily make friends, though she never could quite decide which 'social group' she wanted to belong to, usually fluctuating between more “nerdy” groups and the “girly girls” so far those existed.   Her mother, still lacking experience with childcare, pampered Miriam perhaps a bit too much, which she happily accepted, choosing the easy route and be less independent from her parents than other children her age. This dependency set her up for a steep fall:   Despite their physical distance, or perhaps because of it, young Miriam grew very attached to her father. As a result, she was hit hard when her father returned from Korea in 2012 a broken and defeated man, having lost his reputation and job in the scandal surrounding the Seoul National University Surrogate Trial Program . The following year saw her father's health quickly decline, until her was found to have developed cancer, passing away the following year.

/*Jessica ran away from home for a day following the death of her father, as she couldn't stand to remain at home any longer. The true Jessica never returned. Kidnapped by the Fair Folk, she was replaced with her own Changeling version.*/

  Her powers manifested for the first time in the time following her father's passing.   With no proper control over her power yet, she spent the next few weeks in the hospital herself, plagued by splitting headaches, misinterpreted as a traumatic reaction to the death of her father. Eventually, as she learned to keep her powers at bay and the headaches subsided. The experiences her father had gone through in the final years of his life, though she did not quite understand them yet, had left her slightly more bitter and careful than she had been prior. Her powers did not help her issues in the slightest. Slowly becoming aware of things people kept from her, she developed an almost compulsive obsession to factcheck everything in her surroundings, making it increasingly difficult for her to have normal social relationships.   Miriam grew distant and rebellious towards her mother, who was now struggling to keep the family financially afloat without her husband’s income. Arguments became increasingly frequent until they were more or less just living next to each other instead of with each other in the same house. While she kept an eye out for her younger siblings, by the time Miriam entered high school, the relationship with her mother was already more than strained and Miriam used this new point in her life as an excuse to become even more distant to her, spending days at friend's houses and other strategies to avoid spending too much time at home. It was around this time that Miriam also started dreaming of using her power, which she kept a closely guarded secret, to make a living.   It didn't take long before Miriam took to the super life. Not only could she use the money that she earned with power very well, she also had finally honed her ability enough over the years to not be sent into day-long headaches by asking more than three questions a day. Assembling a costume and mask, she took the name “Parrot” as her cape identity, referencing her habit to repeat what other people say to check whether it is true. She tries to keep the precise nature of her powers a secret, though the fact that she is a Thinker is not easily hidden.   Categorically against becoming Sanctioned due to her ongoing trust issues and having problems opening up to people as a result, she also tried to not associate herself with any villains, as her abilities leave her with little chance to avoid getting arrested. Trying to play it 'safe', she instead did some semi-legal stunts using her power to earn some money and took some cape ‘mercenary’ work, providing various parties, including both heroes and villains, with information and advice based on her power – for a fee of course   Her first major outing came during D-Day, when she brokered a truce between rogues and sanctioned supers in order to combat the terrorist Jane Doe. Using her powers to triangulate positions and eliminate possibilities, she still considered the ultimate outcome of D-Day a failing of hers. Jane Doe's final messages included taunts and threats, some directed at her personally.   Having risen to local fame thanks to her work leading up to D-Day, Miriam has had a booming business as Parrot ever since. Working with only a few ground rules, she maintains her neutrality and remains fiercely protective of both her person and her secret identity, almost never appearing in person.
