Bloody Mary

Maralyn Bird (a.k.a. Bloody Mary)

Bloody Mary, civilian name Maralyn Bird, is a U.S. American Rogue and serial killer. Captured in 2022, she is serving a life sentence in North Branch.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Bloody Mary is of lean figure, with long limbs, a thin torso and an almost complete absence of curves. Her pretty oval face is somewhat marred by her frequent dark circles under her eyes. Her charm is boyish at best. She has short, raven-black hair that always looks somewhat oily.   When fully taking on the identity of Bloody Mary, she dyed part of her hair red. She also exhibits scars on hands, arms and torso, sustained by wielding mirror shards as weapons, as well as self-inflicted to produce intimidating scarring.

Special abilities

Bloody Mary possesses the ability to move through any reflective surface upon which she has any form of line of sight. This movement happens near instantaneously and circumvents physical restraints. She can either quickly jump from surface to surface, reappear from or near them or even hide away inside of such a surface for an indetermined amount of time.   Whilst inside a reflective surface, she exhibits limited control over the reflective object, twisting, bending and breaking them. She most prominently used this ability to shatter mirror and reflective glass in order to attack her victims.

Apparel & Accessories

Bloody Mary never used any costume to commit her crimes.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Maralyn Bird grew up in Avon Park, Florida. According to testimony given by her following her arrest she awoke to her superpowers at the age of fourteen. She further claims to have experimented with her power by stealing and mutilating animals. After being insulted at school, she attacked a fellow student by shattering a mirror into her face, leading to lifelong scarring. At the time, the incident was not linked to her.   Following her high school graduation, she moved the Jacksonville to attend Florida State College, working as a bartender to earn money on the side. Bird claims that a pushy patron of the bar first harrassed her, then later waited for her shift to end, trying to assault her on her way home. Killing the man in self-defense she say it lead to her developing a "taste for blood".   Over the next three years, she committed a total of four more murders, all by different methods, usually targeting men that fit the pattern established by her first victim. By now having graduated from college, Bird briefly tired to mingle with Jacksonville's rogue scene under the identity of "Reflection", but found herself driven away by her inability to follow rules. After a particular bad falling out between her and local super Updraft, she assaulted and murdered the woman while in her civilian identity, stabbing her with the shard of a broken mirror.   Following this incident which the press dubbed the "Bloody Mary Murder", Bird for lack of an official name was referred to as "Bloody Mary" by both reporters and the police. Relishing in this new image, Bird made the decision to style her future murders in this image the public had created for her. Over the following years, Bird committed further murders by the same method, beginning with the reporter who had originally broken her story and given her her new monicker. To that end, Bird began picking victims more and more at random, with percieved personal slights in everyday life by total strangers often serving as enough of a motive for her. When questioned, Bird noted relishing in the thrill of murder and having developed a sadistic personality.   Although the authorities quickly identified a super as the only possible suspect, Bird kept eluding her pursuers. Association with her former identity of Reflect was also established soon, when teammembers of Updraft contacted the police.   In 2021, the Jacksonville authorities, under the assistance of the DSHA and various scientists and tinkers began making plans for a capture of Bloody Mary. As she was known to react to public taunts and dares, and a penchant for targeting those who came in the spotlight near her, they eventually managed to trick her into going after a 'bait victim', actually a prepared super in disguise. He lured Bird into a sepcially prepared room that while allowing entrance through reflections could be modified at an instant to allow no escape by such means. While the trap was successfully sprung, Bloody Mary still managed to butcher the super that had lured her into it before authorities could intervene.   Under high security, Bird was trialed in late 2022. She showed no remorse and freely admitted to all of her crimes while giving detailed accounts of each and every one of them. Found guilty on all charges, she was sentenced to lifelong imprisonment in North Branch in March 2023 and moved to the facilty later that same month.
