The Soul Book

Lost to the sands of the Terralesque Desert, the Soul Book is an infinite manuscript that writes itself in order to document the life of whomever it is bound to.

Creation

The Soul Book was created hundreds of years ago, before modern Distotia had started to rise. The king of Calantis wanted a way to document his lineage without paying for inconsistent scribes to do the job. He commissioned a purple leather bound book to be made, with an intricate illustration of His Majesty's magical power. In order to enchant the book, he killed his favorite scribe and bound his soul to the book.   The scribe wasn't too happy about this, but he remained loyal to his kingdom. Plus, immortality and partial omnipotence is a decent bonus. He lives within the book now, writing every page as time marches forward. Unfortunately, now that the king's lineage has perished, the scribe has nothing to write. He'll have to wait until the book gets rebound. The scribe's name is Fatalis.

Binding

The book was first bound to the King of Calantis. Whenever the current "main character" dies, the book will move onto their direct descendants (eldest child first.) If the book runs out of people in that bloodline to bind to, the book will stop writing entirely.   In order to rebind the book, the owner must surround the new subject with 16 candles. Then, the owner must offer 50gp worth of possessions to the spirits that first created the book. Afterward, the book will begin writing with the new subject as the "main character." This rebinding process can only be done once every month.

Writing

The book will write the life of whomever it is bound to as if their life was a 3rd person limited novel. The book will document the main character's thoughts, and the motivation for any of their actions. The scribe who writes the manuscript has grown a sense of humor over the years, and he will occasionally mock the main character, or describe their actions sarcastically. This is one of his few methods of entertainment.   Navigating this infinite book is quite simple. In the front cover, there is a table of contents that marks the start of everyone's lifetime. As this table of contents grows passed the first page, all the user has to do is flip the page, and the book will magically stay on the first page, while maintaining the sensation of being flipped. This will display the next "page," even though no progress is being made through the book.   The same sensation is present at the very middle of the book. If you aren't near one of the ends of the book, flipping pages will offer the sensation of turning through a book, while no pages are actually being turned. Still, the text changes, and the user makes it further through the contents of the book. The book only ever appears to have 400 pages, even though it has thousands.
