Selunus

The Festival of the Moon

Selunus signifies the passing of one year into the next, and it generally celebrates the passing of time.

Celebrations/Events

Selunus, also known as the Festival of the Moon, is celebrated worldwide in Distotia. Everyone, regardless of their religious alignment acknowledges Selunus, as it marks the ending of one year, and the start of a next. People usually host grand parties, banquets, and gatherings in order to celebrate the new year, and in order to surround themselves with as many people as possible.   There are certain things that people will do during Selunus in order to bring their family good fortune in the coming year. Most people will invite as many people over to their house as possible, or they'll go to the largest gathering that they have been invited to. Social gatherings bring great fame in fortune to those who engage with them. Some people may play gambling games in order to gain good luck for the next year, though this tradition was manufactured by the city Celesta.   Grand announcements are a large part of Selunus as well. People will announce a big project, or a great piece of good news. They do so because, on Selunus, the reception is always expected to be good. If a Selunus passes without a big reveal, people wonder if something went wrong. Proposals are very common during Selunus. Company reveals are as well.   Some people eat copious amounts of food during Selunus. The idea is that food "doesn't count" on Selunus, as the day doesn't fit into either year, but rather in-between, so technically it doesn't exist at all. This is a complete myth, but it's a great excuse to help yourself to a second serving during dinner.   It's also pretty common for people to reenact their year in a small scale family theater production. Sentimentality is a big deal in certain parts of Distotia, and people like to take Selunus as a day of reflection. Also, by reflecting every year, people are more driven to set goals for themselves in the next year.

Stargazer's Hall and the Golden Minutes

During Selunus, there exists a small window of time where the moon perfectly aligns with Distotia. During a stretch of about 15 minutes, Stargazer's Hall in Celesta is completely illuminated by the moonlight. A beam of purple crystalline light connects with the moon and the structure, creating a spectacular lightshow that makes just about everyone's bucket list. This makes Celesta a very busy place during the week leading up to Selunus.
