Haven

Darkness.   For nine long years, the ship had known nothing but darkness. Travelling too quickly to see the universe around it, too distant from any star to recieve its light, it continued on its lonely journey far from human space. Now, that journey was over. It had reached its destination.
As the first human vessel approached the destination star, it identified a habitable world: Haven. Haven is a world with a semi-breathable atmosphere, plentiful water, many natural resources, and numerous biomes. Most importantly, it is thousands of light years away from Earth. On this new world, the human colonists and the alien companions who joined them hope to establish a new civilization in the ashes of the last one. Much is unknown about the planet. It teems with life both familiar and unknown, while strange structures from a lost alien race dot the landscape. Both prosperity and peril await.

Geography

We landed in some sort of meadow, surrounded by pine trees and stuff, in what seems to be some kind of hilly region. There's a small river nearby (I think its water) and there's some kind of plateau in the distance. Maybe two, three miles away. That would be interesting to check out. I think, if I get permission from the CO, I'm gonna go check that out tomorrow.
— Journal Log, shortly after planetfall
So far, humans have only explored a miniscule fraction of the planet around their landing site. Their location, a smallish continent stretching from the equator south, seems to be mostly covered in forests and some swampland. A massive inland sea resides within a crater that covers a significant portion of the continent. A number of mountains and hills cover the region. In addition to this primary continent, there seems to be four others. However, these ones appear to be not as research-rich according to shipboard sensors and have a unfamiliar substance in the atmosphere.

Fauna & Flora

The life on this planet is fairly similar to Earth-native life. It has forests, grass, ferns, flowers, and all manner of wild animals. However, there are also a variety of extinct species (who wants to ride a dinosaur?) and monstrous creatures wholly unlike anything ever encountered elsewhere in the galaxy. Initial observations have concluded that a few of these species seem to act under the influence of some sort of hive mind or primitive society. More studying is warranted.
