The Kingdom of Camelot

Britain is united under King Arthur, who defeats the encroaching Saxons at the decisive Battle of Mount Badon, and brings peace after years of fighting. Arthur establishes his court at Camelot and presides for many years, aided by the sorcerer Merlin. Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table usher in a golden age for Britain and accomplish many great quests, eventually even recovering the Holy Grail (Christ’s cup from the Last Supper).

Merlin, a being born of the mortal world and Avalon, becomes Master Mage. Foreseeing the chance to bring a new mortal champion into the world capable of uniting the British Isles under a single banner, the sorcerer manipulates events to place the child Arthur on the throne. Granting the boy king the sword Excalibur, he assists Arthur in the formation of Camelot and the Round Table. The machinations of Morgan LeFay, Arthur’s half-sister, bring chaos to Camelot. In that time, Merlin used his magic to bind and control the demon Etrigan. Merlin and Etrigan battle Arthur’s nemesis, Morgaine Le Fey, as does Sir Justin the Shining Knight, who uses magic weapons and a flying steed given to him by Merlin.

Tracking one of the last ogres into the mountains, Sir Justin and his winged horse, Victory, are buried beneath an avalanche and frozen until they are awakened in the 20th century and join the Seven Soldiers of Victory and the All-Star Squadron. However, Merlin later uses magic to summon him back and then does so more than once; eventually he returned to stay.

Elsewhere in Britain, a young boy named Brian Kent is secretly taught the knightly skills needed to take the place of his murdered lord and father. Brian Kent was actually an incarnation of Khufu/the Hawk Avatar. To get justice for his father, the murdered lord, yet not endanger the people he now protects, Kent dons a suit of armor that hides his face and adventures as the Silent Knight.
