Nommo, one of the Homo magi and the wizard-king of the Atlantean colony of Kor in Africa, defended his country’s mystical Flame of Life in a fearsome battle. Fighting against the sorcerer Felix Faust, the battle ended with Kor’s destruction and Nommo absorbing the Flame to gain the power needed to banish Faust to another dimension. Most of his people dead and his nation destroyed, Nommo found the power of the Flame had made him immortal and nearly invulnerable, and determined to spend the centuries elevating Homo sapiens to the level of the Homo magi, he decided to work from the shadows and named himself Doctor Mist.     Among his allies was the hero that would later become Dawnguard, though the two had been granted long life, their lives would be extended. Ajull, along with several others had their life extended through the magic in the air that day. Ajull was one of the few survivors of Felex Faust's attack that destroyed Kor and he absorbed his reincarnation power from the Flame of Life. He then sidekicked to Nommo "Dr. Mist" or "Dr. of the Morning Fog" and he then took on the name Dawnguard.
