Episode Ninety-eight - Tyranny of the Greatwyrm

General Summary

Part One

After deciding on treasure, the party set out and made for Glantri. Shadowed by a longship, the took a secret path and found the village just as calamity struck. A greatwyrm, red of scales, soared down from the sky and burned the village in swift action. The group could do nothing but watch as the town burned. Later they would learn the greatwyrm's name, Asardolon and that it was baiting its echo in the mountains as it hid with its mate, a black dragon.   Soon after they made their way to the mansion of Baron Althon and met his family. Once the party determined that Calcryx's mother was helping with the town's recovery, and they met with her, they continued south upon their quest. Wiseclaw in their wake, they traveled far and eventually arrived in the county of Blasingdel to visit the town of Hidroth.   Invited in by the lord himself, after a bit of shopping beyond the wall; the party were asked to solve a murder. The lord asked the group to leave their dragonnels outside as he informed them that they would find the murder scene in the town cemetery.

Part Two

Thwip spotted Dane outside the cemetery as they looked around and talked with the lead investigator. Varian determined that the victim's head was physically torn off of its body and thrown. They found a trail to the northeast leading away and followed it to the house of the victim and determined that a book had gone missing within.

Part Three

Thwip spoke with Akhor Eidor at the Green Gander and set up a date. She learned he knew of their goal but would not talk about it. Mattais talked to Thwip and through over confidence, showed her he was the killer. Tirith and Varian got Mattais, the graveyard vampire, to admit that he regretted his life path. That he had been lazy and wasted his time, that immortality had not been useful. Tirith spoke with him about the Heironion Code and offered to heal his hand but suggest it would help him remember what he had learned. Tirith suggested that, in redemption, he would find peace in the next life. Tirith bargained for Mattais' life as Lord Merrick explained the importance of the situation involving the book the vampire killed for, an occult book of evil the vampire traded away.   Speaking with the armorer, he told the group that he hid their belonging and gave the book to the orc Sergeant of the keep. The party then found him beat by two knights of Norden Keep and track them to an inn. Apparently a couple, they encounter the two and learn the book was stolen from them by whom they discover to be Dane. Tracking Dane, they learn that he lost the book in a magical fight that the Dumpster Wizard they met in the Fallen Citadel witnessed. They learned Dane fought Griffa von Amber but got blasted away as he fought the man's priestess.   The party then traveled to Griffa's manor and met in his lesser dining hall; a glorious room with golden tables, a stuffed owl bear in corner, and completely diamond chandelier. They talked with him and learned that he planned to use the book to conquer the Hells. He told them the book's history and the story of Vecna's empire. Then, they journeyed on with Griffa and found Dane. Aldrich brutally murdered Dane with his axe and then stayed the night with a tattooed saytr as the party said goodbye to Griffa.

Part Four

Attempting to rest for the rest of the morning, the party awoke to find the town under siege. As the group fought off orcs, dragon-men and the same leader that had nearly killed Thwip and gotten away at Norden Keep, Aldrich battled the monster that Dane became in death. Finding both victory and exhaustion, the group fled to the town's keep for safety. Leaving behind the woman that used a wyvern to defend the town's skies from a young dragon.

Part Five

Side-tracked, the party went to help locals and found only an onslaught and Varian's father. Defending an armorer's shop from certain doom, the group held off an orc horde and were escorted with the family and Taeral, Varian's father, come the early hours of the morning.   Their escort was none other then the leader of the siege. Presenting honor and speaking of the greater good, he delivered the party to the keep.
