Kalinga clan

The Kalinga clan is one of the longest reigning devic clans, having originated since the beginning of the First Bloom and maintaining its traditions throughout. The aggressive expansion of the Kalinga dynasty and its hereditary tactics makes it one of the primary devic clans dominating Shambhala next to Yuga Prime.

History

Founded on the eastern coasts of Shambhala, the Kalinga clan initially neglected rapid expansion, unlike the abundance of tribalistic clans in chaos, as they perfected the practice of religious traditions through the control of information and powerful proselytization. Rather than threats and physical assertion, the Kalinga priests preached peace with outsiders and foreign clansfolk alike with promises of a stable culture and safekeeping, convincing many into converting to their cause. By understanding the desire to find cohesion in a higher order, the clan had already gained hundreds of followers who would breed into the thousands. By the time rivalling weapons were raised against the Kalinga, their cultures had already been assimilated under the religious dynasty. Families would be blessed with the genetic material of the devas and whole armies and economies were formed.   Carrying the Age of Idols forward, the Kalinga clan would continue to upkeep morale and discourage rebellion long enough to innovate in technological prowess, their techniques popularised amidst the remaining clans that could still stand their own ground. The luxurious facade of the Kalinga dynasty would gradually begin to fade in response to inner conflicts amidst the Kalinga priests in regards to existentialism - this division of priests, alongside a daughter of the devic family named Maya, retreated into the outlands to become ascetics and eventually found the Saffron Robes. Alongside the Untouchables, the Kalinga clan faced a rising threat and thus enforced authoritarian conduct in response to the rebels. Morale began to slip, but the already-devoted forces of the clan castes became stronger.   Characterising the Saffron Robes and Untouchables as heretics, the Kalinga clan would aggressively push their religious imagery and psychological warfare to preach and convert even more outsiders, sometimes resorting to violent raids as an extreme resort against those who rejected the theocracy. Their most successful invasions would be razing the Saffron Temple multiple times until it was almost entirely demolished and annexed under Kalinga territory, forcing the Saffron Robes to scatter as the Kalinga troops deployed several militaristic and religious camps to seize further territory.   Towards the third bloom alongside a technological arms race, the degrading genetics of the devas clashed with the traditions of the Kalinga that neglected science, forcing the dynasty to operate in the shadows and continue spreading genetic material, with more of the caste going rogue as the clan territory splits into several organisations, hindering their joint effort against the rising power of the Saffron Robes and the Untouchables.

Culture

As one of the original devic clans, Kalinga culture deeply honours the codes of traditional devicracy, promising fulfilled lives through revelling in the divine and receiving blessings through great merit. Devotion is found in family roots and traditions, with festive celebrations and ceremonies of worship to allow any member of the castes to find a seat amidst the divine. In religious authority, there is no room for rebellion and such thoughts and actions that threaten the order are considered 'demonic'.   Kalinga architecture, much like its religious campaign, assimilates many kinds of designs as their constructs are displayed in pristine awe, with ornamental patterns and myriadic colours dominating the dense streets and close-packed plazas that fill the space surrounding the great temples that honour the legacies of Kalinga history.
