Goliaths
Goliaths are a race of humanoids that appear broadly similar to humans, except for their large size and stature. Goliaths typically reach between 7 and 8 feet tall, and tend to have near-herculean physiques. It is believed that they are the product of relationships between the Forest Giants and the ancient Yngarians, in the days before Maknor Wildfyr's campaign in the west. They generally speak a mixture of Giantish and Yngarian (a dialect now lost in Yngar proper).
Goliaths are still occasionally born from human families in the area around Yngar, likely due to the prominence of Giantish blood. Historically, goliaths were often abandoned by their human parents as soon as their unnatural size became obvious - often around puberty. Many young goliaths were chased out of their homes, and forced to survive on their own. While this practice has mostly died out, the largest goliath settlements can still be found among the hidden sanctuaries of the Untamed Hills, where their ancestors once fled to.
Life among the hills is harsh and unforgiving. Their Hill Giantish neighbours are known to be fiercely territorial, and attacks from them are not uncommon, while the Dragons of the eastern Drakkenpeaks are also known to assault Goliath sanctuaries. However, many goliath settlements are known to maintain good relations with the Wildwatch, often exchanging information on the movements of their wild neighbours.
Goliaths are not well known in the Empire proper - even in the region of Volodaria, few outside of the Wildwatch have had any real encounters with them. Isolated and sheltered, it is little surprise that within their villages, a strong sense of community pervades. With none but one another to trust, goliath settlements are some of the most closely-knit of all, with concepts of family and shared duty being core parts of goliath culture.
