Aoleirian Empire
The Aoleirian Empire, also known as the First Aoleirian Empire, was a nation that ruled over The Isle of Aoleir , Aerdha, the First City and the Heartlands, as well as forming the first colonies in the Aelder Woods. Its conception is said to have occurred as a result of celestial meddling: the interference of Omordon, one of the Primes, who whispered guidance in the ear of Sundemar and so birthed the concept of imperialism. Theologians pose that this action is what resulted in the formation of The Veil.
The Aoleirian Empire is a curiosity compared to its successors, in that it was effectively ruled by a single man, Sundemar. Sundemar was well versed in many forms of magic including necromancy which allowed him to live far longer than even an elf naturally should. And as a result, the empire lived and, eventually, died with him. It is difficult to establish how good a ruler Sundemar truly was. He was effective, to be sure as under him the first true cities in the Heartlands and the Elven Isles were born and developed. His own ability to delegate to a cadre of advisors, and his abilities at diplomacy, especially among the other Aoleirians, allowed for an era of stability that extended for well over a millennium.
During this period, Aoleirian culture advanced greatly along with various forms of art. Sculptures of jade and marble were highly valued, as were paintings formed of Aoleirian dyes. The first coins were minted and circulated over the entirety of the Empire, carved with Sundemar's likeness. Scrollmaking and wandmaking industries developed, as the arcane, divine and druidic arts also developed, culminating (arguably) in the Dragonborn Experiments which created an entirely new race, used even now as servants and warriors by the Aoleirians. This peak of mortal knowledge is described by some modern scholars as 'the Perfect Conception' for humans and dwarves, as the Aoleirian Empire massively accelerated their own development. Even though it was followed by a long dark age, in which massive amounts of knowledge were lost, it still planted the seeds for development for these peoples.
The Aoleirian Empire's fall is described by some as a tragedy. Emperor Sundemar was struck down by a conspiracy of his closest advisers who wished to seize power. But without its emperor, the empire collapsed. The elves of the Aelder Woods were cut off from their ancestral home in the ensuing chaos, while the elves of the mainland were forced to return, or else were slaughtered by rebellious humans and dwarves. A Second Aoleirian Empire rose from the ashes of its predecessor, ruling over Aerdha and Aoleir, as well as the area surrounding Nara Tok, before collapsing once again into the current Aoleirian republic of Seaofin and Saofin. During this fall an immeasurable wealth of treasures and knowledge was lost. Some say the world has still not recovered.
