Marchosias

Marchosias is the Devan god of darkness. It is a rebellious, scheming god who wishes retribution from its sibling Arael. While not necessarily the “devil”, Marchosias is still a demonic god. Thus, it is fierce, and as one of the most powerful and unpredictable gods even an impression of it is enough to cause the highest powers to feel unsettled. On the other hand, it's not truly chaotic; it's intelligent enough to recognize the importance of its role and at its core, it is honest.   Marchosias is disdainful of the Other Realm and the gods ruling over it. After Marchosias was cast out because it initially was against its role, as poetic irony, in its anger it embraced its role of as the darkness God in direct rebellion against the Over Realm.   It is also the creator of the corvine race, by virtue of literally birthing the feral ancestors of the corvine. It is because of their familial relationship that the corvine greatly resemble Marchosias.

Tenets of Faith

"Let go of fear and face demise. The end of days is inevitable, the only ones who are doomed are those who reject this truth."

Divine Goals & Aspirations

Marchosias wishes to exert its power through the corvine. This is not motivated by selfish desire however - it secretly hopes to return to its home in the Over Realm. Because Marchosias itself was once a resident of the Over Realm, Marchosias has a bitter rivalry with Arael as the being who is preventing Marchosias from achieving this goal.   Marchosias' desire to return home to the Over Realm births its wish for eminence and destruction of anything that impedes this task. Destruction is in its nature - in fact, it must perform regular acts of destruction to maintain balance with creation itself. Chaotic destruction best shows when Marchosias' ambitions get the better of it. Furthermore, it is the progenitor of the corvine race, and its ambitions are purely for helping its children survive.

Physical Description

Identifying Characteristics

Marchosias can be identified by its beady eyes and smile, as well as by the cyan eyes on its wings.

Physical quirks

Marchosias' wings, although feathery, are shaped like claws, which act as a secondary set of hands for expressive functions. The claws on its hands are so sharp that Marchosias keeps them open as if it is grasping for something.

Personal history

Marchosias was born when Deva was nothing more than a rock drifting in chaos. Along with its siblings, Marchosias originated from a fragment of cosmic aether that shattered once it collided with the preformed Deva - one of these fragments buried itself into the ground until it reached a pitch-black cavern where no light could penetrate it. Once the fragment entered, it created a form to reflect its environment, one that took the form of a nocturnal beast that operated the element of darkness. Soon, the young creature found its way out of the cavern and to the surface, where it was greeted by the other creatures that also hatched from the fragments scattered across the land. Marchosias and its siblings lived together in harmony for millenia as Deva soon grew into a world of its own.   However, this changed when the beings discovered their own abilities - in particular, the ability to create life from combining elements. Soon, new creatures were produced by each sibling. Marchosias' direct counterpart, Arael, was furious over its siblings using the creation - the power it alone had dominion over - and demanded that Marchosias destroy its own offspring to satisfy the balance of things. Out of love for its children, Marchosias refused. Enraged, Arael declared Marchosias a demon, and convinced two of their siblings to join against Marchosias. In response, Marchosias also convinced two other siblings that Arael was in the wrong and to join him in stopping Arael. The clash of the gods shook Deva apart, with the progeny of the gods seeking ways to avoid the destruction. In the battle's apogee, Deva could not handle the fighting and broke apart; as this happened, Arael cast Marchosias into the chasm, trapping Marchosias in the earth beneath the surface. Marchosias' allies and descendants followed him downward, condemning them as well.   When the land settled down, a barrier was placed in between the chasm to mend Deva from the battle. The world the fallen gods were sent to reformed itself into the Under Realm, while the land above became the Over Realm. Trapped inside the Under Realm, Marchosias swore vengeance upon Arael.

Personality Characteristics

Virtues & Personality perks

The embodiment of darkness is not inherently malevolent. Indeed, there are some positive aspects of the entity overlooked by non-followers. For instance, it is loyal to its tribe to a fault and will sacrifice its own power to ensure their survival. It takes its duty very seriously, seeing destruction as a necessary part of life with as much a right to exist as creation. Marchosias will see to it that no deed it is responsible for goes undone. Marchosias is incredibly honest as well, but it will not tell the entire truth. Above all, Marchosias is incredibly patient when it comes to intricate plots and planning, even when its endeavors may consume much of its time and resources.

Vices & Personality flaws

On the other hand, Marchosias is very arrogant and prideful with its power, and the extent of its followers. It can get carried away with its role, often it accidentally destroys more than what is needed. It harbors vengeful and miserable feelings spurred from its fall, resulting in its volatile behavior and powerful outbursts of anger when provoked. Marchosias tends to justify its actions with the injustice committed against it and its descendants. However, it is willing to manipulate others, including the corvine, to do what needs to be done.
