Sea of Fire

The Sea of Fire is one of the four Elemental Seas that ring the world of Deus, and widely considered to be by far the most dangerous. At its edges, water seamlessly transforms into lava while maintaining its currents, instantly destroying any wooden boats or marine organisms which enter the Sea unprepared.

Fire is the element of destruction, as should be obvious by the harrowing tales told of those who strayed too near the Sea without knowing where they were headed. But where there is destruction, there is also rebirth, and the Sea of Fire boasts its own inhabitants, including heat-resistent creatures such as salamanders and Fire Dragons, not to mention the headquarters of House Draco.

Geography

The Sea of Fire consists of a vast expanse of lava kept continually hot through an unknown mechanism. The depth of the Sea is also yet to be determined, given the inherent logistical difficulties of measuring such a thing, as is whether life is present beneath its surface.

Above the surface, however, the Sea is easily mapped if one has taken the necessary precautions. Mostly-barren islands speckle its waters, ranging from smaller than the average ship to larger than some regions of the Dean mainland. Several mid- to large-sized islands boast mountains or volcanoes rising high above the Sea.

Ecosystem

The Sea of Fire is hot throughout the seasons, and a steady wind blows to the southeast at all times of day and night, though it varies in strength. At first glance, it may seem that no life can survive in such a climate.

Such an impression could hardly be more wrong. Animals like salamanders, phoenixes, and other odd creations of the gods coexist with one another both on the surfaces of the islands and in fissures within the rock. Such fissures are also home to hardy plant life, and some forms of lichen and moss can be found all across the Sea if one is willing to look. There are fewer large life forms, but such beasts still appear from time to time, serving the vital ecological role of prey for the apex predator of the Sea of Fire, the Fire Dragon.

Most of these large creatures roam between the islands on some mechanism. Phoenixes and other avian creatures fly over the Sea, riding the constant warm breezes to soar without flapping a wing as often as they can. Some, such as the jewel-shelled Magma Turtles, are capable of floating on the surface of the lava without harm to their person. Yet more are theorized to live their lives entirely beneath the lava, never showing themselves to mortals unable to dive—though an intact specimen of such a being has never been found, as one would only surface were a Fire Dragon snatching it from its home.

World Map
Deus is a flat world, consisting of a single central continent surrounded by vast Seas of the four elements. Most mortals live on the relatively unchanging continent, as the Seas are constantly being reformed by the gods.
