Basic Information

Anatomy

Vansae are humanoid and have almost entirely human anatomy. However, they have flexible facial structure, enabling them to reshape their faces as they wish, and they have no eyes.

Biological Traits

Vansae often live between 120 and 160 years, but cases have been recorded of 180-year-old vansae.

Genetics and Reproduction

Vansae reproduce the same as humans.

Growth Rate & Stages

Vansae can begin shapeshifting around the age of ten, but they don't fully mature until around age twenty. When they mature, they develop illusory powers. These powers are often focused with objects such as instruments, playing cards, or blades, especially by younger/less experienced vansae.

Some organizations hire harlequins to work as assassins, spies, thieves, etc. due to their shapeshifting abilities.

Facial characteristics

Vansae have no notable facial features to speak of. They have straight noses and sculpted mouths, and their faces are perfectly smooth and snow white. However, they have the ability to shift their faces into whatever appearance they want.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Their senses of touch, taste, smell, and hearing are exactly the same as those of humans. However, they have no physical sight. Instead, they have mental powers to "see" the objects around them within a 20-foot radius. Beyond that, their vision turns to black. They don't see color well, so anything dull-toned appears grey and even bright objects appear duller than life.

Civilization and Culture

Beauty Ideals

Since vansae have no unique features of their own, they don't have much by way of beauty ideals. They usually adapt to the tastes of the species around them, or to their own individual tastes in some rare cases.

Common Dress Code

Since their vision doesn't pick up color easily, most vansae gravitate toward brighter clothing pieces because they can see some of the color in them. They also tend toward high-contrast outfits, since there's more variation even if they only see grey. Masks are also common, to easily disguise their featureless faces.

Vansae are often tall and slender. Most also build a lot of muscle through acrobatics and the like, but you wouldn't know it unless you saw one shirtless.

Vansae have snow white skin and no natural markings (unless you count the black cavities where their eyes should be).
