Manzhee

In the reed-covered streets Caithan hadn’t noticed the sunlight begin to dim, but as she stepped onto the apartment roof, she saw the first stars twinkling out of a slowly fading sky. Rahim sat on the western edge of the roof, facing the blazing sun as it touched the horizon, and grinned over his shoulder at her.
“Welcome to Manzhee,” he said.
Caithan sat beside him, wiping an arm across her damp forehead, and looked out over the tiled rooftops of Teraco. The view was less colorful than from home, but no less breathtaking. “It’s beautiful.”
“Isn’t it?” Rahim watched the sun sink lower in the sky. “I’d bet even the stucco palaces of Pruyid don’t have views as beautiful as this.”
Caithan glanced at Rahim. “How much are you willing to stake on that?”
He met her gaze, eyes almost golden in the fading sun. “Five hundred tiilas. But you’ll have a hard time getting me into Pruyid in the first place to prove it."
“I think our interactions have been sufficient to show I always accept a challenge.”
