Frost Spines
Geography
Contrary to its name, the large spires that line the landscape are not composed of ice. Rather, the spires composition include a variety of sedentary rocks. Because of this composition, it is thought that the cold temperatures have allowed the water in between the rocks to freeze and expand, cracking the rocks layers. When temperatures rise, the cracks allowed the wind to erode soft rock inside, leaving behind spires of rock.
The overall land is barren, with little plant and animal life. During the winter, snow blankets the land and ice adorns the rocky spires. As the seasons change, the snow and ice melts, the rocks natural red and white colors are apparent. Small lakes and streams form, serving as a drinking place for small animals. Plants and animals emerge from their hiding to revel in this newfound warmth.
Fauna & Flora
During the cold seasons, it is easy to mistake the Frost Spines as a lifeless desert. After the initial melting, the warmth awakens flora and fauna across the land.
Plants take advantage of the ever-fast winds of the Spines, evident in their evolutionary characteristic. Puff-balls allow the winds to pull the seeds that adorn them with little force, carrying them far and wide across the lands. Sunspots bloom in a smaller volume, and nearer bodies of water, but in a more colorful display. Their petals of yellow, red, or blue release heavy seeds that drop to into the soil and takes roots quickly.
The animals of the region are slower to wake. Shellbacks, aptly named for their large plates of scales and carapaces, emerge from their hibernation and from their caves into this new paradise. A variety of migratory birds can be seen flying to indulge in this warmth.
Natural Resources
Despite the variety of natural beauty that can be seen from the Spines, it offers very little in terms of material for the Cirrlyr. Small veins of metal of been found, but have been concluded too small in terms of the expense to extract it. The ground, while fertile, cannot sustain nutritional crops for consumption.
The Spines remain a heavy tourist attraction in terms of safaris.
