Warding Scroll

"This place isn't going to keep out anyone.. much less a demi-god." Lilliana scoffed; distinct displeasure on her features. She hadn't signed up to go all cabin in the woods. If the bad guys found them, there was no way they were going to be able to live through it. It was four walls and a ceiling, sure, but she was pretty sure a stiff breeze could take down the cabin if the weather got frisky enough.

"Lucky for us, I came prepared." She arched a fine brow as she looked back to her traveling companion at his words. He was unrolling what she would have sword was a CVS receipt. If she looked hard enough, she might have been able to make out the coupons on the back.

"I really don't think that CVS is going to want to help out... unless you are looking to get 50 cents off of a pack of deodorant." She wrinkled her nose but there was a wry humor to her tone despite her irritability.

"Ha. Ha." Jonah quipped dryly. She watched as he moved to hang the scroll of paper at the corner of the rickety little building. "Viola! Instant ward." As he said it, a shimmer of blue formed a dome around the building; the effect fading just as quickly as it came. "It'll hold until nightfall."
Said to be created by a daughter of Hecate, warding scrolls are dynamic divine objects that allow their user the opportunity to be protected by the wards that every demi could otherwise construct. The legend is that this daughter wanted to protect her lover from her brother's wrath. She created these scrolls day in and day out for an entire moon. The result was enough time for her brother to come to terms with his sister's choice in men. Of course, whether he ever managed to accept the lover is lost to time.

Warding Scrolls can be crafted from any piece of paper that is of sufficient length. It must be one continuous piece of paper which tends to make the preferable medium receipts from stores, but they could just as easily be crafted from anything else. The only real requirement is the time, intent, and energy investment; the materials are flexible.

Purpose

Warding scrolls were made to be a short term substitute for established wards. They are temporary and time consuming to make, but there is little substitution for a well warded sleeping place. Being that wards take days to establish, it became imperative for demigods and other people looking for protection to come up with a quicker solution to the problems surrounding safe travel.
