The Co-Operative

Dominating the western bank of the M'Sipli, the Co-operative is a loosely allied body of agricultural trade associations that supply food for the entire Confederation with enough left over for lucrative exports. Sworn to uphold Druidic ideals of honoring the land they tend, the Co-operative is home to one of the Great Groves, The Munificent Cypress Estuary. All external affairs of the city are administered by the Druids of the grove, and their seat on the Council is reserved for the Speaker of the Grove.

This District also includes dozens of towns, villages, and hamlets that dot the swamps and floodplains outside the Ancient Wall. Trade Associations of herbalists, lumber (mostly for pulp), and other resources harvested from the swamp draw most of their clout from these areas.

Demographics

The Co-operative is made up of a nearly equal mix of humans and half-elves, with a strong minority of hill dwarves and elves. Several gnome enclaves also exist near the river. Other species are generally welcome and are mixed into most townships.

Wealth is concentrated near the M'Sipli River, where processing, storage, and transport facilities handle the Co-operative's vast harvests. The agricultural zones are relatively sparsely populated, with small company hamlets dotting the District to house permanent workers. Seasonal work is contracted from other Districts, primarily The Voice.

Government

Druidic Corporate Republic

Internal matters of the Co-operative are decided by the Bountiful Assembly, which represents the many Trade Associations that operate within the Co-operative. The Associations are represented based on the amount of equity they're able to command in the Co-operative's operational budget. The budget is capped at a level set by the Assembly, and if the budget has been met no new member applications may be submitted. This means that Trade Associations are constantly in competition to commit funding to large projects, and that new Trade Associations are very rare.

No person or entity can own land within the Co-operative. Any individual may apply to work a piece of land and share in its bounty. However tools, equipment, manufacturing facilities, and even seedstock can be owned, leased out, and defended. These businesses form the backbone of the Trade Associations.
