Temple of Communion (ˈtempəl əv kəˈmyo͞onyən)

Purpose / Function

This building is used as a place of healing, as well as a place to commune with the Deimosian god of medicine and healing. Its usage as a place of healing has been in place since around when Deimos was being colonized, although it was only used as a place of healing during the colonization period. Its usage to commune with the Deimosian god of medicine and healing came much later in time, because the longer civilization stayed on Deimos, more and more events that could not be explained started happening, which made the Deimosian people some of the most superstitious and religious in their known universe.

Architecture

The Temple of Communion is most commonly comprised of a square-based, cylindrical tower, with a domed, glass roof and three more towers on its northern, eastern, and western sides that also have domed, glass roofs and are all connected to each other, and the main tower, by hallways. On the exterior of the temple, are 2 rings of of stone-like pillars and archways, similar to Stonehenge on Earth but much larger.

History

The origins for the Temple of Communion mostly came from superstition. Due to believing in a god of medicine and healing, the people of Deimos were afraid that building a hospital that was not built in the name of their medicine god would cause him to become upset with his followers and wipe out all civilization on Deimos. Before the Deimosian people were the superstitious and religious people they are now, they called the Temple of Communion, the Temple of Healing.

Tourism

Due to being a place used to heal the sick, these temples don't get much tourism outside of scientists traveling to Deimos to see its people's unique process to heal its sick and injured citizens.
